Hi ladies.

I'm asking for my best friend. Her OH was given results by GP today, pending meeting with their fertility specialist, all they told him was his motility was low?
Can any of you nice ladies shed any light on these results? She's out of her mind with worry!

Many thanks! X

It does appear that the motility is 0. So they're not swimming. I think he only has a count of 1 million which is quite low as well. With this sample she'll still have the option of IVF with ICSI. That's where they inject the sperm right into the egg so it takes motility out of the equation.
They just gave her these results w/out any other explanation?? That's really brutal!

Yup. They literally said everything was normal but motility was below average and that was it! As the sperm count is per ml, would you then multiply that by 4 as it was a 4ml sample given? Thanks! Z

That would give you the total amount but I think most places want more than 1 million/ml.

Oh right - it says in the right hand column should be greater than 14mill.

She needs to get him tested again to make sure it wasn't an off day, they like to wait 3 months between tests but 2 months would be ok. What is his lifestyle like? Hot baths, smokes, drinks, tight underwear, healthy diet etc

Sorry it is a short reply, will do better one tomorrow x

By the looks of it, that's definitely an abnormal semen analysis. Count, motility, and morphology (normal forms i.e. heads and tails) are low. ICSI will be necessary, but I'd also recommend that he get acupuncture, quit coffee and alcohol, take a good quality antioxidant supplement, fish oils, and a good quality daily whole food men's multivitamin. Is he taking any hair loss meds? Other meds, such as antibiotics and steroids, can also affect the quality of his sperm.

I'm a fertility acupuncturist. I interpret these all the time and fill in the blanks that the doctors didn't tell their patients. Hope that helps.

it's so frustating analysing results as the layout differ from area to area - My hubby got his done in Nottm and i have no idea what the results mean.. doctors haven;t really explained them only saying "it only takes one"..... not much help thanks doctor, it was all he could do to get us out of the room as soon as possible...

Waiting for the fertility expert to explain in greater detail which each column means on our reults as they are the experts and know exactly how to intrepret the results for us...

Roll on the appointment on the 7th jan....
