I would agree - my Anna can be really fussy and not hungry first thing in the morning - after sleeping through 12hrs! -and she only wants 4 oz milk!!! She usually makes up for it in the afternoon/evening.
I have always just counted oz per day as there are lots of babys who will feed during the night and then some that are sleeping 12hrs
Indeed, ounces per day rather than how many feeds. Some babies will prefer to eat a large quantity in one go, others prefer to "graze" with smaller feeds more often
it should say on the box brookie g. I was confused as my LO is 6 weeks and it sayds for a baby 4-8 weeks give 5oz per feed (6times a day) but for weight of 13lb which my LO is give 6oz 5 times a day?!
He is in the 8-12 weeks weight bracket. I am just trying 6oz per feed and seeing what he thinks!
I always kept track of oz per day as my LO was a real grazer and would only take 2-4 oz per feed (she fed every 2 hours though).
As a rule of thumb, they say the number of oz per day is 2.5 x your babies weight in pounds. ie a 10lb baby should be having approx 25 oz per day.
My paediatrician said they look at 120 - 200ml per kg of weight as an approximation. It does vary though - some babies eat loads and follow the weight charts exactly and others seemingly eat very little and put on good amounts of weight.
In my opinion, it is better to follow your LO rather than the boxes - if they finish a bottle, add another oz to the next one. If they seem hungry after 2 hours, then feed them! I've been amazed at how consistent Rebecca has been - even if she had 11 bottles in a day she would still be within 50ml of what she had the day before (they'd just be smaller feeds).
As long as they're alert, happy, lots of wet nappies and gaining weight it's all good!
