These question are for non-IVF/non-Clomid twin moms (just bc I'm interested in other not-so-obvious factors). I guess I'd like to take a small poll for the sake of discovering whether or not the hype is true about certain products. Love to hear from you all!

1. Do you have a family history of twinning?

2. Did you use Soy Isoflavones? Was your dosage high?

3. Did you take a lot of Folic Acid?

4. Do you think there were other factors/supplements responsible?

NOTE: This post is not intended to flame, or prove that certain products can help ladies conceive twins, nor am I taking any kind of stance on whether or not women TRY for twins and hopefully no one else will either. I'm just genuinely curious because I'm taking soy isoflavones and folic acid next cycle to improve ovulation.

Drugs similar to Clomid are supposed to have a very low twin rate (I've read 0-7%). I don't know if I'd put them in the same class as IVF. I took Letrozole but also high dose folic acid and had several other "risk" factors for twins (right after MC, advanced age, PCOS, weight, etc.). The drugs may have not been the cause.

Congratulations!

I have seen a lot online about Soy Isoflavones being the rough equivalent of Clomid but it doesn't seem to be responsible for nearly any twin births so I have been kind of curious about how all that shakes out.

1. Do you have a family history of twinning?

Yes maternal grandmother had frats so does my sister.

2. Did you use Soy Isoflavones? Was your dosage high?

Didn't use anything at all.

3. Did you take a lot of Folic Acid?

I found out at 6 weeks that it was twins and at that stage I was advised that usual dosage was recommended

4. Do you think there were other factors/supplements responsible?

Nope not in the slightest - I am genetically inclined to release two eggs so I had twins.

Another slant is partner age apparently as th younger the father the more likely he will produce twins soooo maybe age of partner would be an interesting factor - me 36 him 29

Hi, I'm having fraternal twins conceived naturally. In answer to your questions:

1. My mu had identical twins which I'm assured don't run in families but we have found some random distant relative who has fraternal twins but that is it.

2. No I never took thus, I've never heard of it before.

3. I never too frolic acid before I fell pregnant. I tried to take it once I found out I was pregnant but it made me so sick I had to stop.

4. Other than me being 34 and a bit overweight I don't know of any other factors.

P.s. my husband is also 34 x x

1. Do you have a family history of twinning?

No

2. Did you use Soy Isoflavones? Was your dosage high?

No

3. Did you take a lot of Folic Acid?

An additional 400mg on top of whatever is in prenatals.

4. Do you think there were other factors/supplements responsible?

Age? As you go past 30, chances for twins increases, I'm 33.

1) yes, my paternal great aunt had frat sons as my grandmother reminded me this weekend, my sister had a blighted ovum of fraternal triplets in 2006, 3 empty sacs.

2) no

A friend who did a lot of soy miscarried and I didn't want to use anything unnatural. My OB told me my MC was because of the morning after pill and advised not to do much different.

3) no, I was on prenatals since Jan before and after my MC though.

4) yes, the fact that I'm 34 helps. Egg more prone to split in two as mine did. I had just come off a miscarriage and did certain things to prevent another. I've found that lots of twin mamas coming off MC get twins. I believe in God and think part of it is His mercy more than things done.

1. Do you have a family history of twinning?

yes...it skipped..and Im not joking..like 3-4 generations I think....it was my great great grandmother that had a set and then a few of her cousins had sets too..all of the same generation on my moms side..and then skipped to my generation...a few of my cousins from that family my generation have had twins too...they also run on my dads side for both his paternal and maternal sides even though that supposedly doesnt count....

2. Did you use Soy Isoflavones? Was your dosage high? Nope

3. Did you take a lot of Folic Acid?

Yes...started taking it before we even started TTCing and also took extra...like 800-1200mcg daily

4. Do you think there were other factors/supplements responsible?

idk but I used pre-seed and softcups lol..so that might have helped more sperm be viable and able to reach both my eggs..but..idk lol ...that one could just be a stretch lol

I conceived frat twins aged 30 (FOB also 30).

1. Do you have a family history of twinning?
Yes. My great-grandmother had a set and my grandmother's 1st cousin had a set.

2. Did you use Soy Isoflavones?
No.

3. Did you take a lot of Folic Acid?
I'm not sure what constitutes a lot? But I was taking "trying to conceive" vitamins and these contained the recommended normal dose of folic acid

4. Do you think there were other factors/supplements responsible?
Maybe. I had a MC the cycle before I conceived twins and I reckon this *may* have left elevated hormones or triggered something. I have heard a lot of other twins conceived post MC but dunno if it's a statistically significant amount or if there is a true link there.
