My LO is nearly 5 weeks and is on both breast and formula due to her not staying on breast enough. The MW suggested topping up so thats what we do. Last few days in the evening we seem to have constant feeding, wanting boob straight after bottle (after previously spitting out before bottle) then feeding for around 45 mins, being sick and wanting more. I know the sick is due to over feeding but then she wants more what am I to do. HV said she may do that and to feed when she wants it and not deprive her but it just seems to be constand moving of the mouth, rooting on my chest. Anyone else have this? a growth spurt do you think or do I have a piggy baby? She put on 1/2lb a week which HV said was absolutely fine, but when I told ppl she now weighs 9.5lb they all called her a porker and was shocked she went from 7.3 to 9.5 in just over 4 weeks. HV said not to worry about weight until she goes onto solids (unless she isn't putting enough on) Just concerned about this constant wanting food then bringing it back up then wanting more. HV said she may just do that but want to know if anyone else has had this.

Your milk supply isn't established yet, she's trying to establish it. Feed her when she wants hun. It won't be this hard forever x

Cluster feeding is common, my son did it at that age. As Toria said, she is getting the supply established. Plus at around 6 weeks they have a major growth spurt, and she will feed lots an dlots. It does get easier as she gets older.

DS fed constantly until he was about 8 weeks. It's tough at the time but now when I think about it it seems so long ago. Her weight gain sounds fine, my ds was 7lbs10 at birth and 12lbs by the time he was 6 weeks, breastfed babies often gain alot of weight early on, then it tapers off as they get older.

My DS did that for the first 2-3 months. He always cluster fed! Plus he use to always spit up - I ended up burping him every couple of minutes while nursing and that seemed to stop the constant spit up.

Oh and he also gained tons of weight - whenever I'd tell people how much he weighed they'd be shocked, but it tapered off. Now he's a little skinny for his age - takes after his dad lol
