Finley has been weaning since 4 months (medical reasons) and I know its normal for them to not drink as much but Finley is hardly drinking at all. My Annabel Karmel book says that he should be drinking between 21-28 fl oz a day when weaning but I dont think Finley drinks this much at all :-(
His last feed was at around 7.30pm lat night & he only took around 5-6oz its now 12 hours later & he wont take his milk, he keeps pushing it away everytime I offer it too him  He'll only probably take about 5oz of his 8oz bottle each feed.
Because of this its hard to know when he'll want feeding, I suppose I just have to wait for him to cry for it.
He's not putting much weight on either but he never has because he has reflux but I thought with him having solids aswell he'd put on weight put in 5 weeks he's only put on 15oz which isnt even a lb  the HV wasnt overly concerned but wanted me to maybe up his solids to 3 meals a day instead of his usual 2 but surely this will mean he'll take even less milk??
We're holding off until he is 6 months (in 2 weeks) and then he can have pretty much anything apart from the obvious (on advice from HV) & hopefully we'll see a rise in weight.
I just dont know what to do about his milk intake though :-(
Has anyone got any advice or going through the same???

Oh no :( Is it the milk he doesn't want or maybe his bottle? What about offering him a sippy cup?
I'm sorry,I haven't got any good advice :nope: Hopefully someone else will know though xxx

Its not his bottles because there is the odd time he will drink the lot but then most of the time he just messes about with it:dohh:
I've tried a sippy cup (have a doidy cup) but he didnt really take to it, might try again though x Thanks for the reply x

My lil man has been like this for the past 2 week. Ive seen hv and gp and they have spoken to peadiatrician at hospital. No one has any idea why he doesnt want it but he doesnt!! He is was 14lb last week but was only taking 10oz a day if i was lucky!

They suggested feeding him off a spoon every half hour which i did for a few days (hard work!!) and then in the end my gp recomended starting weaning as he needed something in him. He takes baby rice/ porridge in the morning and has 3 bottles of 3-5 oz a day!

No one seems to have a clue but he hates milk and his bottles now!!

I know this isnt helping you much but just thought i would share :)

If he's more interested in solids, u can mix his formula with the food u'r giving him. Keep a record of what he's taking. He should take around 28 oz at this age. Omar went through this phase & he was really not interested in his bottles (he takes one baby rice or organic jar per day). I think teething was the reason. He's still fuzzy when he takes his bottle, but I try to give him as much as I can as he sleeps through for 12 hrs without feeds, & with a solid feed, there is really not enough time to fit 4 bottles a day. Last wk he was managing 20-22 oz per day, but I think he's going through a growth spurt those 2 days & hes asking for more milk & is taking 25 oz + one solid. He's also suffering frm reflux.

:hugs: Hannah never did take in the recommended amounts of milk. She always gained fairly well though so I'm not really certain what to suggest :(

Finn has never taken the recomended amounts since we weaned him,but I try to add it to his food to give him some etc.Mix with his breakfast and I try to give him a yoghurt, cheese etc in the hope that this will bump up his milk intake.xx

Thank you for all the replies x

Since writing this he hasnt been too bad although some days he'll only have 3 bottles a day some days he'll have 4 depends if he has one in the night (where he'll take 5oz)
so far today he's emptied both 8oz bottles & also a 5oz bottle at 5.20am so already had 21oz & he'll have another bottle around 7.30ish before bedtime x

I will try the cup though or putting it in his solids if he this happens again x

Thank you all again x
