I have read that some guys don't do well with the stress of having to "produce a sample" on demand, and end up shooting almost nothing. Many guys do better if they do it at home wherever they are used to doing it, some guys bring their partner with them to the clinic to help them relax, and some guys are only able to get a normal sample by collecting it in a non-spermicidal condom during sex (I think these are provided by the doctor because not just any condom will do). Also, guys produce varying amounts of semen depending on mow aroused they are, which is why some guys just can't get enough of a sample while at the doctor's office. Making sure DH gets good and worked up may prove to have better results.
Have you asked your DH if he produced less than usual? If he says that it wasn't at all the normal amount, you might want to check with the clinic to see if collecting a sample at home, either manually or during sex, is an option.
PS: I am so glad I'm not a guy. I don't think I'd be able to have an orgasm at a doctor's office with all the staff knowing exactly what I'm doing in that little room. It seems like it must be the most embarrassing thing in the world. Just thinking about having to do that makes me a little queasy. I don't find it surprising that so many guys have trouble with it/refuse to do it.
