Argh, this is frustrating and a little scary
As a history, DD1 came after a long steady 24h labour with half hour pushing. DD2 on the other hand came an hour after getting to the hospital in 2 pushes (3 mins), though the contractions had been going for about 12 hours, just not hugely painful till the last 10 mins or so (painful and regular, but I coped till that point then it was too late for pain relief). They came at +7 and +8 days overdue respectively, so I was (maybe still am?) convinced this one would be overdue too.
I started getting pretty heavy BH at 10:45pm last night that felt a bit different to my previous ones. Decided to go to bed and sleep them off, and was woken up by them at 1.30am, coming every 3 mins and 45 secs long, and very uncomfortable. OH and I aren't living together atm so I decided to call him to get him to come over "just in case". When he saw me scrunch my face up through a contraction we decided we should go in as it was exactly the same as DD2, and she came soon after that.
Got to the hospital, contractions getting longer and stronger. Asked for an internal to see how I was doing, and was at 1-2cm but very stretchy, membranes bulging, and during a contraction going "way up" dilation wise. Went for a walk, starting to get quite ouchy so decided to get the pool filled up because this time I'd love to actually have a water birth! When I got in, the contractions seemed to ease off so I only stayed in there about 10 mins and decided to go walkies again.
Fast forward, and the contractions totally eased off for a while, now they are coming in fits and starts... No more than every 5 mins and sometimes longer Feel very crampy and a lot of pressure, but not as ouchy as they were. They were nervous about letting me go home as when they examined me I was at 3cm and "the stretchest cervix she's ever felt", baby had also decided to pop right back out of my pelvis for a bit so they are worried if my waters go when she does that I could be at risk of cord prolapse (but 2 mins later she was back "down there").
I've just got home, been to the loo and had a bloody show (that didn't happen until right before DD2 came last time - she didn't bother breaking my waters either and came out in the sack!) so it's looking positive, and I'm definately not feeling "right", but where did the regular contractions go? It would be useful if it just stopped completely, or progressed properly, I'm not sure if I'm in labour or not! Having a cup of RLT and trying to chill out, I don't think me stressing was / is helping!
Thankfully the midwife is on labour duty so she'll come straight to the house if anything kicks off and we don't think we can get to the hospital in time, they were as unsure as me whether I should stay or not but as she should be able to get here quite quickly it should be OK!
In a bit of denial as I'm only just 38 weeks, then again both my other two were back to back so not an ideal position and these contractions are odd because I'm used to the back spliting type of pain and these are mostly at the front and low down will mild back pain. Argh just wish I knew for sure either way! Sorry needed to rant!
