Just beginning to look at this. Seems quite a big purchase.
Are you ladies getting actual baby furniture or just a normal chest of drawers, wardrobe etc. Buying new or second hand?
Any recommendations for good places to look?

There are lots of places to look for furniture... depends if you want new or second hand really. We're getting new - I think from babies r us. They have some sets which I don't think are bad value. I think we're getting the Richmond range. I know Tesco online do sets, you can get them from Argos, Mothercare etc. Depends how much you want to pay I guess. Next, John Lewis and Mamas & Papas do furniture but bit more pricey. As for second hand ebay is probably your best bet. I'm sure there are lots of other places to look too - and am sure some other ladies will give you some more suggestions.

I'm planning to buy normal furniture - full sized chest of drawers, and wardrobe as everything is SO expensive. It makes more sense to me to buy full size, and have it last until it's really on it's last legs :)

I don't see a problem with buying second hand furniture either, and will possibly look at this option - but with shops as cheap as Ikea, I think I'd rather buy brand new.

I recommend Ikea...their online shop is great & covers all their ranges. I tend to look at regular bedroom furniture instead of the kids bit. Also sometimes Mamas & Papas (super expensive!!!!!) have some good sales on, and I assume Mothercare does as well. But definitely take a look at Ikea online - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/

If you want to take a look at second hand furniture, Ebay is great!

we got given a chest of drawers and bought a wardrobe. we've got a futon in the room and the cot bed too and i think that's all the furniture we really need. i was thinking of getting a changing table but i dont see the point. everyone i know never used one. there are some good deals about but i dont see anything wrong with second hand. x

We're getting the Babystyle Calgary set (about £750). I love it as the drawers and wardrobe don't particulalry look like 'baby' furniture, and will last the LO for as long as he/she lives at home. Thecotbed will also last a wee bit longer than a cot would, so it'll be a couple of years before we need to buy a bed. Happy days :happydance:

I dod look in Mothercare etc but all their furniture looked a bit too 'babyish' and I thought we'd need to replace it all when the LO gets a bit older? John Lewis had some nice stuff though, although a bit more expensive?

We have got a cotbed from mothercare with the matching changing unit and under cot storage as the changing unit can be used a chest of drawers also. I have a normal shelf unit in there buut wont be buying a baby wardrobe as most baby clothes won't need hanging up and then when we need to just get a normal wardrobe.

we took our chest of drawers out of our bedroom and bought really nice big drawers for our master bedroom. Bought a cotbed for baby room..and we already had a bookcase and single bed in the spare room..so the only baby furniture we have is the cotbed..but we made everything look aby like!

Mamas and Pappas have got a sale on some of their furniture sets at the moment and they are really nice! The set we are looking at is reduced from £875 to £499

I think argos are pretty good, and the cot that comes with the wardrobe and chest of draws can turn into a junior bed. I bought it with my first (dec 2007) and its still going strong with number 2. It only cost 399 which i though was really reasonable and i will be using it for number 2 as well.
If i had had the internet available to me back when i was first expecting i would have most probably bought a set from ebay as there are some beautiful ones that originally cost a fortune but u can pick up for a couple of hundred. Total bargin!!

We were gonna buy a 2nd hand set but a baby store near to us was having a massive sale so we bought a new set..only cos it was 52% off tho otherwise there was a snowballs chance in hell of us being able to afford it:D

ive just got normal furniture even though ours is 2nd hand but in good condition. im considering buying/ makeing one of these (but out of wood of course) - https://www.organizeit.com/podoublehang.asp

just makes the wardrobe more usefull when you have tiny baby clothes hanging up so much space seems to get wasted.
