So I had the dreaded winter cold last week and stayed at home on the couch for 2 and a half days, thus I had a lot of time to think of a theme. My BF really liked the idea of a nautical theme, with anchors and sailboats and such, so we are going with that. Unfortunately, since we live in an apartment, we can't paint the walls, but we are going to get some decals and stuff to put up. And though our registry is done, we are going back to the store to pick out things for the nursery that go with the theme so that people can buy some stuff for the baby shower if they want.

Let me know your ideas! I really liked thinking of a theme and I'm kind of sad that we've picked one already, but I really love the one we picked and I'm excited to pick things out for it.

I decided mine a few months ago and it really took me about five minutes. I am doing a story book, childrens literature theme. I have quotes from different authors that i'm stenciling on canvas, I'm making a stacked booked lamp for his little desk, peter pan clock, a flying key mobile from harry potter, Pooh corner map on the wall, my husband is making a signpost for the corner pointing to a bunch of fictional locations, Narnia, Hogwards, Neverland etc.. I have always been an avid reader and so has my husband so as soon as I mentioned it that was that. Of course for a boy I have adjusted a little bit to include Treasure Island and slightly more masculine stories. Pinochio instead of Cinderella that kind of thing.

That sounds really cute!!

We are doing a modern mural of sorts, by wallpapering one plain wall, with this pretty, whimsical floral wallpaper I found https://www.houzz.com/photos/11200047/Floral-Sketch-Wallpaper-contemporary-wallpaper. And then I'm going to paint the other three walls.

I have a few bunnies already (just by chance, people have bought them for her), so we are going to get a bunny painting and call it done (along with some other pictures on the wall - like her name in and I love this https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtsyVoiceprint?section_id=13783269&ref=shopsection_leftnav_1).

So I guess our theme is not really a theme...just whatever we love. haha

OMG that's such a great idea!!! Reading is a huge part of my life too (Goodreads is one of my favorite websites lol), but unfortunately not a big part of BF's. Still, we want the little guy to read a lot and are thinking about doing a "Bring a Book for Alex and get entered in a raffle to win" at the baby shower or something. But that nursery idea is so cool and I would have loved it as a child. :D

We are having a little girl and our theme is yellow, grey and white Elephants with accents of teal and orange. Handmade bedding and handmade mobile which drops 60cm with floating elephant plushes and leaves. I'm on the hunt for suitable wall art ideas

My theme is pretty much Spring based and girly. Light pink walls, light green trim. I have painted one flowery wall mural and I am working on a tree. I will likely hang up or paint owls. I want to find natural looking tree branch shelves but so far not luck Dx

He'll be staying in our room for at least 9 months since we're in a 2 bedroom house, so we're re-doing our whole room in a Star Wars theme (Light vs Dark). We're not painting the walls either, so buying several decals to put over the crib and the opposite wall, and buying Star Wars fabric to do the crib bedding and accessories. Can't wait to get our tax return so I can drop some more money! :haha:

Can I just tell you that I tried the Star Wars theme first and BF shot it down?!? I'm kind of a super nerd and love Star Wars, so I was a little PO'ed at him for that one, but I got over it lol. Still, that's wicked cool.

Tigers, Lion King, and Safari animals all combined :)

It's so tough to find a lot of tiger stuff!!

I'll be doing a Peter Pan/ Neverland theme for my little man.

I did a nautical theme with my son. I loved it! Here are some photos of his room.

This time we're having a girl and I'm doing sort of a boho/whimsical theme with lots of flowers, butterflies, and dream catchers. The main colors will be purple and mint

that's already on my baby shower invitations. with a note inside for him to read. My best friend has already supplied him with all of the Shel Silverstein poetry books and my mom sent over all of my books I had as a kid, unfortunately they're very girly.. I don't think he is going to be interested in my Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie collections.. I am in love with my nursery plans. and everyone who hears it says that that sounds just exactly like us. It feels really good.

I'll be doing a Peter Pan/ Neverland theme for my little man.

I love Peter Pan! I think if I had to choose just one story to focus on Peter Pan would have been it. there are so many great decorating decisions to choose from.

We are going for Cath Kidston style, lots of pink and flowers for our first girly. Can't wait to get started. I'm making her a patchwork quilt with the top left fabrics x

I had a natural theme the first time. My son's room is painted in a pale, almost mint green, two smaller walls in white (opposing), very light wood with white and a bit of Aqua blue. I got a cloud curtain at Ikea and a Mobile with bugs from Ikea.
I will keep the room the same. Tbh my son never spent much time in his room. It is more to store his things. He sleeps in our bed.

That might have been a relationship changer for me! :haha: Hubby loves Star Wars as much as I do at least, but we constantly fight about our preference for Jedi versus Sith. Trying to find a delicate balance in the decorations is going to be interesting.

I want grey and baby pink. Either clouds or elephants, but we don't get the gorgeous variety of stuff you guys in America get though, I'm always on eBay and etsy and everything I like is from accross the pond :(

Haha well obviously your son is the Chosen One and will bring balance :D

But yeah, all these nursery ideas from you ladies are amazing! I'm just so curious to see what other people are doing. This is our first child and I honestly just really liked thinking of the theme, and now going to the store to start picking things out for it. Some of these are so creative, it feels like a cop out to be going with something more mainstream, but I have a degree in marine sciences and I love to scuba dive, so it just seemed to fit :D

We are re using all the things we had from our first as it was neutral so although we know we're having boy, it will still be fine.

It's a jungle theme so lots of colour and animals.

We're doing a loose Peter Rabbit theme.

My friend got us the collection of Beatrix Potter books, so I thought it would be nice to work around them

What I want to do is have the walls pink and cover some canvases in the same fabric as will be used on her quilt. Not sure on decorations yet though, so will keep looking

We're not going to be setting it up yet as we're looking for a new house, so don't want to decorate and then be moving as it will just be a waste of time and money :nope:
