Hi girls

I was not given my antigen injection (not sure if correct word/spelling, sorry) after my miscarriage. I am O Rhesus negative. The doc said that I did not need one to protect against future pregnancies.

Has anyone encountered this.

xx

Hello yes i had this how many weeks were you i cant remeber if you are over 12 weeks then you will need it but anything before you will be ok that what the doc told me xx

Hi Spunky

This would make some sense then as I was 9 weeks. She did not explain that to me.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Sorry to read about your loss.

If you had your loss under 12 weeks, you don't need the anti D injection.

I had 3 pregnancy losses in the first trimester and didn't need Anti-D - However I did after the birth of both children.

Hi RachieH

Thanks for letting me know about the injection. I was worried as I have read on the internet that I should have had one.

I am so sorry about your losses. That must have been so awful for you lovely.

Have you gone on to have a viable pregnancy.

xx

Actually it was a bit of a gey area for me too after my losses, as my GP wasn't actually sure if I needed it after my first loss! - He had to get his reference book out! lol
-Yes, the miscarriages were horrendous at the time, especially as I had fertility problems as well, but in all honesty I don't think about them much these days. I know that sounds awful, but since having my children the pain is a distant memory. Sometimes I think about what might have been, but time is a great healer!
- Yes, after 3 losses I now have two very healthy children!

Hi

I am glad that it turned out so well for you. Not good about the dodgy doctor though!

This is what I find so encouraging on this forum. Everyone has a different story, whether good or bad but everyone is so lovely.

:hugs:

Sorry to hear of your loss Rumpskin. The other girls are right, as you were just 9 weeks, you did not need the Anti D injection. I experienced 2 losses before 12 weeks and didn't get the shot with either. Just to give you a word of encouragement... I now have 2 healthy children. Wishing you all the best and a sticky bfp very soon. x

Hi - Just thought I would let you know I would have been 10 weeks pregnant today with my first baby but I had my D&C this morning.

I too am rhesus neg and they did give me a shot of anti-d today. I don't know if hospitals operate differently but there seemed to be no doubt from anyone today that I get the shot. It may be worthwhile checking this out I think its better to get it than not?

So sorry to hear of your loss. :hugs: Like the others said since it was so early in your pregnancy you probably didn't need the injection.

Hi,

I suffered a missed micarriage last week at 10 weeks - the baby had died at 8 weeks. I had to go into hospital for a D&C and while I was in there, the Doctor told me I had to have the Anti-D shot as regardless of how early you are in your pregnancy, once you either miscarry or give birth you have to get the shot - the reason being because your blood and the baby's blood will cross paths during miscarriage or birth. I would definitely check it out again as there was no doubt in my Doctor's mind that I needed the shot for future pregnancies.

Hi AS1

Sorry to hear about your loss lovely. I hope that you are coping okay?

I think that different hospitals must operate differently as I asked the doc and she said that I would not need one. I hope that I will be okay for the next pregnancy :happydance:

Sending you a hug :hugs:

Hi Snowflake, sorry to hear your news too lovely. Sending you a big hug :hugs:

Hope that you too are coping okay xx

hiya
I understand everyone saying that you dont need the anti d unless your over 12 weeks
I had a misscarriage 2 years ago, and i was only 8 weeks
I had a d & c, and straight after they gave me a anti D injection.
It may be different in certain places. :) x

After my natural mc @ 6 weeks my EPU nurse told me that if you mc before about 12 weeks you don't normally need one but that all health trusts/ hospitals have different policies. My hospital gave me the anti-d.

I guess if you're worried about it talk to your doctor to double check, there's no harm in asking for it if you're concerned.

When you get pg again tell them straight away about your mc and ask for them to check your blood early to see if you need the shot. You will only need it if/ when they detect certain antibodies in your blood or once you have given birth.

Just being pg or having an early mc and being Rh negative doesn't mean your immune system will attack your future baby - this only happens if your baby is rhesus positive and yours/baby's blood mixes by crosing the placenta (as happens during birth and late mc) and you produce the antibodies.

If your partner is rhesus negative too then you won't need one at all as your baby can't be rhesus positive.
