Obesity and failure to ovulate...Anyone else in this situation?

Likewise. I can start a course of norethisterone next week to induce a period. Just waiting on th inevitable BFN!

Hi,

I lost the bulk of my weight by cutting out chocolate and sweet stuff completly , detox, havent had any since april last yr, i lost 6st frm apr to dec 2010 i have 2 stone to go but cant seem to get it off at all so i joined slimming world last week to see if that helps with it, but i have pcos and a slow metabolism and also am on a lot of hormones ttc so it makes any weightloss slow right now. i also cant exercise a lot as i suffer from chronic back pain.

merrymunky, maybe this thought will help you... it helped me :)

The idea of having to loose A LOT of weight can be very draining and takes away your will to do anything. You start thinking that you'll never get it down fast enough, so why even bother then? Especially if you don't have any particular difficulties with your weight as it is in everyday living. But what you should instead keep focusing on is that every pound you loose actually HELPS.

Forget about stones, think pounds.

With every single one you're loosing, your chances of starting ovulating on your own grow significantly bigger and so does the response of your body to fertility drugs, in case you'll need them.

I know it sucks knowing that so many women out there can get pregnant and carry healthy babies being overweight and you can't. And yes, it ain't fair. But we gotta work with what's been given to us.

Hi hun, I know exactly how your feeling I have been referred to the womens hospital twice 6 years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS then last year when I was tested I was told I hadnt got it had a test on my tubes they were clear they also basically said I was ovulating and they discharged me telling me to lose weight. Lost around a stone got referred again and got told basically to go away get my BMI down to 30 (its 38 at the moment) then come back. I was gutted as im 36 and my weight isnt reducing at a speed. I also suffer badly with facial hair which is due to the PCOS which I apparently dont have. I have managed to get them to see me again when my BMI is 35 but like you im being punished for being overweight and its heart breaking xxx

Hi ladies,

think I'm losing my mind, I seriously thought i'd posted on here... upon review i notice I hadn't... LOL. must have looked at this thread, went to post and then got distracted:wacko:

Anyway.... I am 26 and I have a BMI in the HIGH 40's!! I have half my body weight loose basically before I'd be classed as my ideal weight by the doctors  (feels like the impossible to do). I have been workign hard with the doctor and tried every pill and dietician they can throw at me but its had no effect. i've had my thyroid checked so many times its rediculous (honestly think my doctor is more convinced I have a thyroid problem than I do :haha:) It has came back as "borderline" a couple of times but she said she can't prescribe me anything unless I fall below the threshold .

I do ovulate but not regularly. my cycles have been anywhere from 22day to 6 months long (those are the extremes). The alst two cycles have been 60 and 70 odd days long. this cycles seems to be a little more "normal", AF was the normal 5 days long and normal amount of flow, this NEVER happens for me, I am usually VERY heavy and last about 10-14 days (sorry TMI). I have a good feeling about this cycle, in the sense of it being more normal.

I have had an US for PCOS and they came back normal... but apparently they couldn't find one of my ovaries . doctor said that it was probably sitting behind something so not to worry, but how can they say for definite I don't' have PCOS if they can only see one ovary?? Or am I missing the point?

i know loosing weight will help, however I know that my weight is not my only issue. I used to be my "ideal" weight and i still didn't ovulate/have regular cycles. Personally i don't believe it to be my be all and end all of my problems, although will admit it can't be helping.

On the plus side, I was a larger lady when I carried my son and I had a happy healthy pregnancy with no complications so it proves it CAN be done and gives me hope for a healthy pregnancy and birth IF/WHEN I do get my BFP!

L :hugs: x

Lisa, thanks for posting.

Just goes to show that someone of a similar BMI to mine CAN have a perfectly healthy pregnancy and birth.

I am sorry you are struggling this time round. It's awful. I see you didn't ovulate regularly even when you were less heavy.

I however, did. Until I was 24 (and from the age of just turned 11) I had regular periods and could predict the time and date of my next period. I was totally clockwork. I was very heavy when I was 24 when they went irregular. I was about 3 stone lighter than I am now but still morbidly obese according to the BMI chart.

At 24 the cycles vanished for about 9 months. Then I had a perios, then I had a 6 month gap and so it continues about every 6 months I would have some sort of bleed, sometimes normal sometimes just spotting and occasionally very heavy. But this is now the longest I have gone without a bleed. A whole year.

Maybe I did just push past my healthy threshold for ovulation and it is all due to my weight.

I am going to be working hard now to reduce my weight again and will hopefully see a change in my cycles.

As of next Friday I can start taking the norethisterone. When I bleed I will be taking soy isoflavones to0 see if that helps me to ovulate sooner next 'cycle.'

I doubt even losing all the weight my BMI will fall below that threshold. I did voice my concerns but they are so quick to fob me off.

I have always been a large framed girl (oldest excuse in the book I know but I am naturally solid) so I worry I will never get there.

hiii we have simmilar stories, firstly lots of baydust to you all.I have pcos and under active tyhroid been ttc for 8 years:( was refered by gp for fertility treatment had first apoitment today and surprise surprise they wont touch me until my bmi is below 30 i am 40 now,i really had hope they will help me but no luck,i havnt had a cycle for over 5 years,i am now thinking which diet will be best for and really hope and i can do something about this weight or i wont get any help, doctor will also hopfuly give slimming tablets,i have also always been large framed cant ever imagine my self slimxxxx
