Hi everyone! :)

I thought I would set up an October mummies thread following the mummies to be one we had in third tri. I don't know about you but the rest of bnb outside of our little cocoon of third tri is rather scary and I haven't seen a lot of names that i recognise on the boards. Thought it would be great to be able to keep in touch with ladies who have babies the same age, for support and just general banter!
So anyway, I hope this gets used. I find myself on here on my phone most nights through feeding time to keep myself awake. Lol.

A quick intro- my little boy Oscar was born on 11th October (his due date) at Newcastle birthing centre. I arrived at the hosp initially at 2cm and was sent home. I used my tens machine and when o eventually went back (which I put off doing as I didn't want to get sent home again) I was 7cm and went straight into the pool. I used g and a for pain relief and gave birth a couple of hours later at 5.20. Oscar came out with his arm over his head weighing 9lb8 so I had a second degree tear which needed stitched but he was fine. I couldnt deliver the placenta in the water after an hour of trying and ended up passing out in the pool due to blood loss. I was dragged from the pool and put on a bed where they tried to stop the bleeding. They couldnt and I wasjust about to be taken to theatre when it stopped so iwas simply admittedto the main hospital upstairs whet I had to stay overnightfor observation. I later found out that the placent had weighted 5lb itself hence thE blood loss.

All is fine now and I'm getting on great with my little (nocturnal) man and learning how to be a mummy. I Am in complete awe of him and can't believe hes here at last!

Ive not had my little lady yet but when she's here I will pop back & join in xx

Hey Phantom. How are you finding motherhood. Congratulations on the birth of Cody! x

im here too. Glad you set this up.

Hey Phantom. How are you finding motherhood. Congratulations on the birth of Cody! x

Motherhood is great, I was actually enjoying Breastfeeding even, but found out last night in the ER I have Double Mastitis. Cody is doing well, only wakes up to eat. He doesn't even cry with a wet diaper. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. LOL

And you?

I'm doing fine-Oscar is a pretty chilled baby and doesn't cry much at the minute. The sleep deprivation isn't too bad but seems to be creeping up on me a bit today. I think I'm doing a bit much during the day though, going out etc, and not napping. I think I've had three naps since he was born c

Hi can i join? My baby girl Annie was born on 15th oct weighing 5lb4 after i was induced at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. I'm also on here during the night feeds, so wouldn't mind some company!

welcome! I'm here during the night feeds too. Very cool, your LO was born just 2 days after mine. We'll have all the same complaints. :haha:

I don't know about u but it feels like its going by so fast, she's over 2 weeks old already and growing so quickly! I see you're bfing too, i'm getting used to the constant demand and am trying to express enough to give myself a break every now and again, which is easier said than done!

It definitely does. I can't wait for him to grow, but at the same time I'm like SLOW DOWNNNNNN. :haha:

Yes, I'm Breastfeeding as well. The past two days have been "power pumping" (exclusively pumping; oumping every hour/hour and a half 15 minutes on each side) as I've got a bit of a supply problem. It is nice to be able to give DH the bottle and tell him to feed LO.

God that must be tiring all that pumping! I never did any yesterday because i had visitors so never got the time during the day then in the evening Annie constantly feeds so the only time i could have done it would have been now, or after she's finished feeding anyway but if i woke oh up with the pump i don't think he'd be too happy! Hopefully i'll get the chance in the morning. Have u tried fenugreek or oatmeal for your supply?

I'd been eating oatmeal for the last week or so, but ran out. Need to buy more. lol.

His Ped put me on Brewer's yeast. It's made my milk a bit thicker... but not anymore of it. I've heard about Fenugreek, but don't know anyone with personal experience of it.

I haven't tried it myself, i've only had one day where she seemed to suck me dry and the rest of the time i think i've had just about enough. I don't think she's been too bad tonight, she went to bed at 11:30 then was up for a feed and a change at 2-3 then has just woken up at half 5. Not bad i reckon. Just hope she'll go back to sleep after this feed!

You know, they say they don't hit a growth spurt until a month, but i swear he's hitting his early. Last night he drank twice what he usually he eats (6ozs total) and this morning He polished off a 3.4 oz bottle of EBM and is now nursing away like he hasn't eaten in weeks.

You have been doing well with the pumping if you had all that ready for him! I've just pumped both boobs for almost an hour and only got 1.5oz, I did the same this morning and only got 1.5oz as well. I think that's my limit now, when my milk first came in I'd get 3oz in 20 mins. Hopefully it'll improve so I can pump enough to go out without having to NIP. What pump do you have? I have the medela swing.

Hi notjustyet! welcome to our little group! As you will have seen, my lo was born on 11th Oct so were all pretty close! Oscar is three weeks old today and now i find myself thinking 'wow was it only three weeks ago i was in labour'. last week i thought 'wow has it already been two weeks'. Its mad isnt it. This time three weeks ago he was 1h 15mins old and i had just started having probs with the placenta delivery. Its gorgeous to see him grow though and i dont get upset over it anymore. think my hormones are calming down now.

Havent been on for a couple of days as OH has had the laptop and i got sick of using my phone, but i have it back now - woohoo.

Had a nightmare night yesterday. Oscar seems to be having problems with wind so ive got him on infacol which seems to be helping a bit, but he just constantly wants to suckle me which is fine during the day but at night it means i get very little sleep. He cries as soon as he comes off. I was so stressed and tired (as was oh) that we ended up having a huge row and he ended up sleeping downstairs so i ended up having to do everything by myself - i am EXHAUSED now. lol. And ive caved in today and bought a dummy for oscar which i really didnt want to do. Im not worried about it affecting his feeding at all because weve had no problems at all with that luckily, but i just hope i can wean him off it successfully as i hate to see toddlers with dummies. I feel like ive really failed but i just need sleep at night.

How have your lo's found breastfeeding and having a bottle of ebm? Im planning on staring to express as im confident that he wont get nipple confusion now but everyone said i should wait longer. Also, stupid question, but if your take a bottle of ebm out with you, how long does it keep (i.e out of the fridge?). i find it really stressful when oscar is crying and were either in the car, or somewhere where i cant feed him, and having a bottle handy would save a lot of screaming i think.

xxx

I was doing really well with the pumping, but his little eating frenzy had pretty much voided my supply. I have one bottle ready for when he wakes up, and 1 in the fridge. And am pumping furiously trying to get the next one.

He does fine switching from Bottle to Breast (except this last day he won't take my left nipple for some reason o_O)

I have the evenflo simplygo dual electric breast pump. It was cheap as i didnt plan on pumping as much as i am now. Have head the medelas are awesome, so when i go abck to work, might buy one of those.

As far as expressed breast milk--

8 hours out at room temperature

5-7 days (depending on your source) in the fridge

3 months in a reg freezer and 6 mos in a deep freeze.

It is very handy in that regard as what i did last night was feed him, and then sat the next bottle out so it was room temp by the time he woke up again, then i dont have to worry about heating it when he's screaming. Also it's nice as formula is only to be kept out 2hrs and when we were out running errands i just put some EBM in a bottle and carried it around with us all day.

Thanks for all that info phantom! Wow 8 hours is much longer than i thought. i only have a manual pump at the min so will try that and see if he takes the bottle. if he does then i think i will invest in an electric one. ive also heard fab things about medelas!

think i may try to express a bottle tomorrow as the bottles will need sterilised first and i have no idea how to use the steriliser so cant tonight. lol. will have to wait til oh gets in to help me. How much should you express for one feed? Sorry, im totally clueless.

btw- your avatar pic is gorgeous!!!

ty!! I've posted them a few other threds but.... (i like showing them off, so here's a few)

Sorry for the watermark, havent got the actual pics in yet.

As for how much to put in a bottle: they should eat about 2 times there weight in ozs. For example, Cody is 9lbs 6ozs so he should be eating between 18-19 ozs a day. This transfers to about 3ozs every 3 hours. (he eats about every three hours except when he's doing this crazy growth spurt) Sometimes he'll only eat 2/3 of the bottle and sometimes he'll want another oz. just depends.

hope this helps :) and good luck expressing. it is kinda nice to to be able to give ur boobs a break and let someone else feed them every once in awhile.

should add-- if you keep ur house warmer than average, the room temp time goes down to about 6 hours, but still a pretty long time :)
