That's it official my LO has dropped below 10th centile line and is now labelled as IUGR. I have had to have a steroid injection today and got to go back tomorrow for a 2nd one. I then have scans booked for the next 2 weeks. Next week they will check baby's dopplers then the following week check its growth. They will then make the decision whether baby needs to come out straight away or not. Freaking out a bit now :( have got 2 weeks to get my bags all packed and all organised just in case.

really sorry to hear that *frown* 32 weeks is very good though, the lungs are fully mature at that point! My son was born at 27 weeks at the 2nd percentile and he`s a healthy, bright 3 year old

I'll be thinking of you! Keep us updated

Hi hun,

Sorry to hear you are going through a worrying time...
I can kind of understand as our son was born 5lb4 full term and so this pregnancy we are having extra scans etc.I've got a feeling I just carry small babies, but because babies these days are bigger when you have a small baby they make you feel its so not normal.I was only 5lb 2 and am only thin and don't really put any weight on apart from bump.I'm desberatly trying to eat more this time round and fingers crossed baby will atleast meet the weight our son was.

Just because your baby is small doesn't mean he\ she isn't strong =o]

Like I was told, they are often best been born so they can get all they need from the milk.

Sorry I'm not much help, just thought I would let you know your not alone..

Xx

Thanks Vermeil. I should be used to it all by now, had a similar situation with my dd and they ended up leaving me until 38wks, although she was a lot smaller than they expected only 3lb15, totally off the scale. I think that's why they are considering getting this one out.

Thanks DaisyMai.
I know in a way I think I would be happier having the baby sooner so i can get some milk down its neck. I know my daughter was perfect and had no trouble after birth. But after the shock of her being so small and hearing of the complications that could have arose I would just prefer to have this one sooner rather than later if its going to go the same way as before :s
All the best in your current pregnancy. Xx

Doppler scan today and all looking good :) Have to wait until next week growth scan now!!! If minimal growth is shown then I will have a few days to prepare for a c section :0 if all looking good then they will try to get me to 37/38 weeks. Feeling a lot more relaxed now. Back to the waiting game !!!

Hiya!

Lovely to hear you are able to relax a bit...remember 37 weeks is classed as full term anyway,so not far off!

Could you explain what growth clinic is? We have a scan at 28 weeks and something called growth clinic next week.Nobody explained what its all about.I don't like not knowing!

Xx

Mine was labelled symmetical IUGR but I did not get told until 38 weeks along . actually if I had more ultrasounds, they probably would have made me give birth early too but I refused it for awhile. I think I just have small babies (son was 6lbs3oz At 40w3d and this little one was 5lbs3oz at 39w0d. My sister also had a 5lber full term baby)

She is developing normal. Still on the small size but growing fine.

But better safe than sorry, right?

Thank you DaisyMai, not long at all may only be 4 weeks :0 oh I have not heard of growth clinic in the uk.

Deafgal, yes just sounds like you may have small babies. Mine seem to do well until 32 weeks and then stop growing. My DD was born at 38wks a tiny 3lb15oz. Once she was out she grew in leaps & bounds and has caught right up with others her age now.

Hi,
My dd1 was born at 34w cuz of preeclampsia with 3ib 12oz, my dd2 was born at 38w 5ib (2kg) she stopped growing at about 32w, they re now very healthy and strong.
I m pregnant, i m taking aspirin from 8w i do growth scan every month, i did doppler scan it was fine, everything is going ok even i m developping GD this time but just diet control.

Ah bless Maria2005, it's amazing how quick they catch up once they are out. My daughter has come on leaps and bounds with her growth.
That's grey news that your pregnancy this time seems to be going well. Ah not so good about the GD.... At least only diet controlled though. X

Iv got to go tomorrow for a second scan this week as my baby hasnt grown for 2 weeks, he is just on the 10th centile, he is estimated weighing 2lb 7oz im terrifed as they have said if theres been no more growth we will have to discuss delivery asap as they dont know why he isnt growing, they done a doppler and the blood flow is fine in the cord

Ah perfectpink :hugs: fingers crossed the scan was incorrect for you. It is always worrying, but sometimes they are better off being out. They soon gain weight once they start getting some milk in them.
Xx

Scan today went really well :) my LO seems to be following on its own little line and even though it is below the 5th centile they have decided to leave me for another 2 weeks at least :) average weight this week is 4lb5oz so not too bad, obviously dependant on accuracy.

Glad to hear your scans have gone so well. I had similar experience with my son, though I was never given the IUGR diagnosis. I had a growth scan at about 30 weeks and he was smaller than expected, especially his abdomen. So they sent me to a fetal and maternal medicine clinic and I had some extra scans. They checked and my placental flow seemed to be working properly so they said he was just small. But they had me come back in 2 weeks to check his growth and luckily he had grown the amount they had expected him to. He ended up being born 5lbs, 4oz at 39+ weeks; perfectly health but small. Now at 2 years old he's still small (~5th percentile for his age) but otherwise healthy. I hope your little one continues to grow as expected. I'm always hesitant to trust the u/s estimates on weight though. Just because with my son, they estimated him to be about 6 lbs when I had my last sono 2 weeks before he was born and I know he grew during those 2 weeks so it's kinda impossible for him to have been 6lbs then! :) Hopefully your estimates are more accurate! Good Luck!

Thanks vtjess423,
I totally understand being hesitant for weight measurements. I have really struggled this time around, found it a lot harder to deal with than the 1st time around. My DD was estimated to be about 5&1/2 lb..... She was 3lb15!!!!! I have struggled this time to believe what they said and even aired my views with my consultant.... Her only response was, 'we do the best we can with the measurements we get given, we can't always be 100% accurate......' I wouldn't mind I had fortnightly growth scans from week 30 with my daughter and going by the scans she was following her own curve line.... So it means that the majority of them were completely wrong!!!!
