So buying maternity bras is something that hadn't even entered my head until my sister just mentioned them this evening. I have a couple of dilema's and I'm not sure if they are something worth investing in - I would appreciate your advice!

Firstly, I am a big girl. When I was last measured I was a 46 DD and it's difficult to find good fitting, comfy bra's that last. I currently wear Triumph Doreen which are super over the shoulder boulder holders!!!! Very good support and hard wearing. I have been looking at some maternity bra's online and they look very flimsy compared to the ones I currently wear, and most only go up to a 38 or 40 back size.

Secondly, I have lost 3 stones since getting pregnant and so my current bras are now quite big on me and my sister says my boobs will probably double in size after I have LO so they might be ok?

Do I go and get measured now and try to find something or do you think I should wait until after I give birth and see how I get on???

Some of them are £40 plus and I don't want to waste that much money on something that may be of no benefit to me!!

Help me please!!!

As long as your existing bras are comfy and arn't underwired I wouldn't bother now. But instead I'd wait and get fitted after the birth and your milk comes in. Also depends if you want to BF or not.

I was a 32DD underwired and was aching at about 8/9 weeks and I went to John Lewis who fitted me with a sports bra it was brilliant until I got too big for it. About 20weeks I went to bravissio and got a "maternity" bra and it is S***!!! It seriously lacks support and if it wasn't for the fact that I am lothed to spend another £30 on a sports bra then I'd go back to JL for one.

I also have one BF Royce bra that I have used on occasions (its black) and it is equally lacking in support.

No my bras aren't underwired and are really comfy.

Seriously I wouldn't bother, I'd wait until your ready for nursing bras. If you are going to BF.

You've probably lost fat (well done) but gained baby boobies if you know what I mean hence your still fitting the same bras.

My underwires were really good fitting and had no real room for expansion hence the boobs were getting squshed all day but why bother if your comfy in what you are wearing?

I would wait - I bought a bunch of bras before delivery assuming I was going to be breastfeeding. Well I wasnt able to so they were a waste of money!

Unless you plan on getting some nursing bras I would recommend you stay away from maternity bras and stick to your normal bras that offer support and comfort.

See that's another thing, I'm not sure if I will breastfeed or not. I'm kinda keeping my options open but have always felt more comfortable with the thought of bottle feeding.

Ok I'm going to wait and see what happens. There isn't all of a sudden going to be a bra drought after I give birth so they will still be there if I need them lol!!!

You could if you wanted to buy one BF bra, just before your due date so that you have it if you want to try BF, keep an eye out for sales.

I got my BF bra when I had gone away on an over night trip and forgot to pack undies... doppy I know... and when looking to buy clean undies and spotted they have £25 bras down to £5 for that kind of money it had to be worth a go. If I used it fine if not fine...but as it's black (probably the reason it was on sale) I've had it on under black tops at nightouts and it is seriously lacking in support.

The only thing that is diffrent about "maternity bras" is that they are very soft and non-wired probably fine for somebody who never had much boobage in the first place but for somebody with boobs they are horrid.

I find that problem with most bras tbh - even ones that are supposed to be "extra firm support". They are just rubbish!

That's why since I discovered these Triumph ones I haven't worn anything else - apart from a nice underwired one if I go out or under certain tops to make my boobs look nice or sit right lol!

Its funny once you find comfy bras you never want to change them. I have been wearing fraya underwire bras for a long time and I hate this stupid "maternity" number.
