We did put in for flavoured but didnt get it, LO will take it with fruit juice but this was giving him diarrohea so stopped that, am just trying to syringe it in the best I can but most of it trickles out, believe me Ive tried.

I have heard alot of people saying it isnt effective if given with formula, is that really the case, even mixed with a bit 30-60ml or so?

Personally Id not as it changes the taste and can lead to issues with acceptance of formula
I'd stick to it in a little bit of prune or peach juice

Our doc checked with the pharmacist and it's not effective mixed with milk. Something about the lack of acidity.

I'd recommend you just persevere. We used to lose some but now he'll take it all most days x

I give it just before his milk when he's hungry. In several goes with a syringe and he gulps it down (expecting milk)

Works most times now but he used to push it out x

Thanks Ill perservere syringing then, I tried with juice and he was having explosive BMs up to 6 times a day, he cant put up with that! We are going to start weaning soon anyway so he can have the tablets. x

Afraid not Hun - milk makes it less effective - says so on my instructions I put it in fruit puree

Thank god for advice on here as our paed didnt give us any instructions on how to administer it! First was prescribed the capsules, for a 14 week old! I cant wait to wean, hopefully it settles the reflux, 4-6 weeks to go.

We used capsules from 6 weeks old, you just open them and put the grain in puree, its more effective

We find the only way Leo will take it is at 6am lying in his cot, and then he goes back to sleep for an hour before we feed him. It means he is hungry, but not too hungry to want a bottle straight away, so he takes the suspension. He would not take it sitting up at all, so we have to do it lying down. Lots of trial and error. Also, a tip, administer in small doses (we have to give him 3.5ml), towards the back and in his cheek...

Thanks, Ill have to keep practicing, I give it with LO lying flat and use 1ml syringes but he's so wise to it he will hold it in his mouth and it will trickle out the sides..

We've been syringing meds to Tegan for three years now.. the easiest way to do it with a young baby is to point the syringe towawrds the side of their mouth but further back.

Either that or use capsules/pills. It's easier to give them and they are more effective too

We tried the tablets and capsules first and he would still spit them out so thought the liquid would be easier. I might just put it in formula as at the mo he spits out 75% anyway so if its only 25% less effective as someone mentioned would be worth doing.

You know I may go back to the Losec Mups and try it with some puree. It says on the side of that can be given with yoghurt, so in turn can it be given with formula? I reckon if I get it in LOs mouth before a bottle I could put the bottle in so he'd swallow it.....

It was the losec tablets I initially asked the docs/pharmacy if it could be mixed with formula. The answer really is no, it stops if being as effective but it's up to you.

Since about 8 weeks Freya had losec mups tablet dispersed in water, the granules settled and I would scoop them out and mix with a bit of pear purée. They mix really well this way and it's very easy to administer!
Good luck!
X
P.S. I have also heard that the tablets are more effective than the suspension. This bore out for us as F was on suspension at first and it made no difference. Perhaps she hardly got any because it tastes so disgusting  Losec worked a treat, however, we've now started the weaning off process - fingers crossed!

Thanks, I am trying the mups from today with a bit of mashed banana. LO is still straining loads and is uncomfortable, I reckon its a side effect as he didnt used to be this bad!

Hopefully the banana will work for you and him hun. If not, perhaps give pear purée a go? It's not as acidic so might not cause the bad stomach. Freya still struggles with very acidic things now but rather than reflux symptoms she gets bad nappies and nappy rash. Particular culprits are apple and peach.

hmm well i think i did too much banana as bubs happily took the spoon of banana kept it in his mouth for a bit and alot dribbled back out, i reckon he had at least half of it though, not sure if thats good for a first time spoon feed! we keep requesting to bring the next paed appointment forward but we wont be seen until sept, bubs is straining in pain alot but only has 1-2 poops per day now since we stopped the fruit juice. i might try pureed sweet potato as worried about the sugar in fruit if he's having bad tummies. x
