My local hospital keep you in 6 hours to the hour you had your baby if you are both healthy then its goodbye, go home!!!

WTH where is there time to rest a little as I hear labour isn’t easy and you are left exhausted.

They don’t bath LO or look after LO while you wash. :growlmad::growlmad:

My hospital also do this.
You can leave 2, 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours after having LO!
x

my hospital dont even make you go to the postnatal ward after...you can literally choose to go home immediately if all is well...i think its insane

I'm not sure of my hospitals policies on this. But it kind of sounds like a drive through service :p Have your baby and you're on your way!:haha:

That's crazy! My hospital is 48 hours atleast for a natural birth and 3-4 days for c section.

The hospitals here require you to stay at least 3 days.

Where im going, the least is 6 hours, as long as mum is happy with going home so quick. and obviously everything is okay with baby. Most is like 48 hours I think in the hospital but if you do want to stay longer, they take you to a birthing centre type place and put you up there for as long as you want to stay :)

I stayed for less than 24 hours, I was desperate to go home and take LO home but I hate hospitals lol

hey u live in the same city as me! i think where i give birth they keep u like a day or so

I stayed at mine for 3 days, hated every minute, were requesting to leave within 24 hours

I think USA has better policies and Faydanielle yours sounds really good, Im scared of PND as my mum had it with 2 out of 3 of us and I dont want to get it :(

6 hours after birth is the shortest time you have to stay. which i prefer cos i hate hospitals and will be dying to get home lol xx

Idk if they make you stay this long but my friend had her baby in the same one I'm going to and she stayed for 48 hours......

my hospital is a minimum of 6 hours..

and it's NHS policy - they HAVE to watch you have 2 healthy feeds (i think?) - with baby taking correct amount of a bottle/latching properly, with healthy cheeks etc..
but as a younger mum they generally keep you in 24 hours, just to make sure everything's okay, and you're not gunna get home a freak out..

at my hospital you HAVE to visit the breastfeeding class before you can go - even if you plan to bottle feed.

apparently the average stay is about 24 hours.. oh and they do like a couple of checks on baby - depends how busy they are too..
xxxx

I really really hate hospitals, and under any other circumstances I'd be outta there as quickly as possible, but with something as important as giving birth & being able to breastfeed correctly, I'd want to stay for as long as it took to make sure everything was fine. I've heard all sorts of stories about women giving birth and then being booted out of the hospital a few hours later but my MW said they'll make sure I'm happy with BFing, and also that I've been to the toilet (dunno if anyone else has been told that :haha:) so I guess I'll just have to see what happens :) x

You don't HAVE to go. If you say you're exhausted, they'll let you stay in postnatal ward for a day or so. However, it's your baby so you will be encouraged to look after your own LO. When I was in I just left amelie sleeping in her cot whilst I went to the bathroom but the cots are on wheels and the bathroom is big enough to take them with you.

Also, IDK why any of you would WANT to stay in anyway  You're just having a baby, you're not ill or anything!

i've been told that sophiiie..

and remember if you really are NOT ready to leave - tell them, and they can't really make you, as if anything did go wrong.. then it wouldn't look too good..

but, at the same time the reason they now operate an in and out policy as much as possible is because in our hospitals, sometimes we share rooms and stuff.. and you're exposed to alot of people, and remember hospitals are places people go to when they're ill - meaning while you're in there, there's a high chance you could get further ill, as your tired and run down - however, if you might need medical assistance or use of their equipment they'll obviously keep you in, as the chances of catching an infection would be lower than something serious happening to you at home..

a friend of mine caught bronchitus, from a cold, she caught off another lady in hospital, her little boy caught it too.. and he got really really ill - i wouldn't want my newborn baby to be at risk of any of this for too long, would you?!

and it costs them soo much money to keep each person in over night - and they NHS are limited for beds, as it is, and can't afford them, so instead of forcing people to actually give birth at home (which they're really considering as it is - lol i read too many posters around the delivery suite) - they give them shorter stays in hospital, and then the beds are available for people who REALLY REALLY need them.. and if you were one of the people who really needed the bed, you wouldn't want to have to travel - to be seen (has happened to me, been sent out of A&E to a different hospital, because they had no room, and i couldn't breathe or anything, but they can't treat you if they don't have the facilities and if people are there when they don't NEED to be, then they could be putting someone else at risk).. :(
