OMG hospital!!!

For me this is fantastic news!! I would love a homebirth but am too scared to go through with it, so will be delivering at the hospital then leaving ASAP. In the hospital you have to do everything by yourself, showering, feeding, changing etc, whereas at home hubby can help and bond too. xxx

it depends if you have tears or anything afterwards, my hospital dont let you go home for atleast 3 days if thats the case!X

I've heard that our maternity hospital like to kick people out as soon as possible. I had Mia at a birth centre and I was in for over 2 days. I was soooooo bored though! But when I asked when I could go home, they said 'whenever you're ready'. So all the time I'd been waiting for them to kick me out and they'd been waiting for me to say I was ready to leave. I was gutted that I could have been home sooner. At least I know now for this time around xx

i've been told that sophiiie..

and remember if you really are NOT ready to leave - tell them, and they can't really make you, as if anything did go wrong.. then it wouldn't look too good..

but, at the same time the reason they now operate an in and out policy as much as possible is because in our hospitals, sometimes we share rooms and stuff.. and you're exposed to alot of people, and remember hospitals are places people go to when they're ill - meaning while you're in there, there's a high chance you could get further ill, as your tired and run down - however, if you might need medical assistance or use of their equipment they'll obviously keep you in, as the chances of catching an infection would be lower than something serious happening to you at home..

a friend of mine caught bronchitus, from a cold, she caught off another lady in hospital, her little boy caught it too.. and he got really really ill - i wouldn't want my newborn baby to be at risk of any of this for too long, would you?!

and it costs them soo much money to keep each person in over night - and they NHS are limited for beds, as it is, and can't afford them, so instead of forcing people to actually give birth at home (which they're really considering as it is - lol i read too many posters around the delivery suite) - they give them shorter stays in hospital, and then the beds are available for people who REALLY REALLY need them.. and if you were one of the people who really needed the bed, you wouldn't want to have to travel - to be seen (has happened to me, been sent out of A&E to a different hospital, because they had no room, and i couldn't breathe or anything, but they can't treat you if they don't have the facilities and if people are there when they don't NEED to be, then they could be putting someone else at risk).. :(
xxxx

That's a really good point, really don't want LO picking anything up. I'm hoping I don't have seriously bad tearing and hopefully can get home as quickly as possible and get used to looking after LO myself, just hoping that baby latches on & that there aren't any complications.

As for making sure you've gone to the toilet...I hope they don't expect to watch me  xx

they won't discharge you if you say you feel exhausted, or if you say you feel guidance regarding breastfeeding... AAH? Yeah a friend of mine had her baby there, in the new south wing... all I can say is it is WOW!! lol... xx

I my hospital if everything is fine with you and your baby then its between 3-6 hours and your out!
Think id much prefer this tho!x

when i had my little girl i couldn'tget out of the damn hospital quick enough! the ward was so full they had to move people about at 4am in the morning just so i could be moved onto the ward after having my LO !! woman in the next bed kept me awake coughing all morning, last thing i wanted was my LO to catch something off her!

the space around the bed was very limited, i couldnt move one the baby had been put along side the bed in the cot!

this time im hopeing for a home birth depending how scans go etc.

Is this in Altnagalvin there new building is supposed to be fantastic but I know 2 women who just had their babies and were sent home 6 hours later, I don’t know if they did this by choice though xxxx

I'm scared of being ill afterwards as my mum and aunts were all sent home and had to return within a day or two as they were ill my mum’s epidural worked the wrong way and numbed her from the waist up and the next day when they discharged her she went temporarily blind and was brought in for a week. My aunt had still some afterbirth left in her and was brought back for a week as she had been poisoned by it!!

I guess it’s just unfortunate that these things happened but I just want me and baby thoroughly checked and I want to be sure I'm ready to go home alone and look after my LO xxxx

yeah, altnagelvin's new south wing is gorg!
i thought i would like about 6 hours if during the day... but after being in here, nope... get me outta here :haha:
xx

Where im going, the least is 6 hours, as long as mum is happy with going home so quick. and obviously everything is okay with baby.

Mine's same as this. I was talking to my mum about it and she said that tbh i will probably just want to get out of there after everything and go home and cuddle my baby..xx

in a way its a good thing its six hours, hospitals always have problems with infections and mrsa, the longer you stay there the more likely you are to get something, this is one of the reasons they try and discharge people as soon as they can and bed space is a worry for them, I hate hospitals so will gladly go home as soon as I can lol they won't discharge you without a doctor looking you over :flower:

I was only in about 6 hours after having him. I just wanted to get home. I wish i'd have stayed at least a night though i was sooooooo exhausted and its really hectic and stuff where everyone wants to visit! x

i would rather leave early and go home, my hospital is really horrible though. i dont know what the policy is there though, will have to check up on that. x

I had my LO at 3pm and was home by 7pm. didnt want to stsy any longer. no bath like your own bath in your own bathroom, with your own towels.... no place like home!!

I was in and out in under 24 hours the only reason I was in as long as I was , was because of the time my daughter was born. I would of been less if she had been born in the day time. with this baby im hoping to make it under 6 hours. my hospital didnt bathe jaymee or really do much they were kinda useless so there really isnt a point in being there

I had to stay overnight. Wish I could have gone home sooner though! I hated being in there and the mws were so horrible on the postnatal ward.
