Just a vent

But if you have only bf for two minutes of your life DON'T give bfing advice! !!

Especially to a first time still on early stages of bfing mom

someone I know just told someone that haa a tummy bug to pump and dump and use formula so baby doesn't get sick

Wtf

:dohh: Some people really dont help matters. I have heard so many stories about ill advice is bugs me both that people feel they can give it that people dont think before they accept advice from someone other than a medical proffessional. I told my mum the other day when she complained i dont take her advice that when she gets a PHD i will listen to her more! :haha:

I know someone who did that exact thing (pump and dump, fed formula to prevent baby getting sick) Doesn't she realize baby was exposed the same as she before she started having symptoms?!?!? The baby needs those antibodies and immunities to help prevent sickness :dohh:

Unfortunately dr's aren't any better sometimes. My old pedi seemed to come up with an excuse out of a hat why I needed to formula feed my daughter. Claimed she would sleep better. Me and hubby just looked at each other like "huh???". Then she opened her laptop and read the notes from the nurse (one of which stated DD was sleeping about a 6 hour block before waking at 8 weeks old!!).

I no longer go to that dr but it made me wonder how many other mothers she has said crap like that to. How many new mothers actually listened to her thinking "she's a dr, she knows best" According to a lady who calls regularly from a local bf support group FREQUENTLY! Several new mothers have gone to formula on orders from this dr!!! :grr:

My son and I got the rota virus his pead admitted him I demanded to be admitted with as he was bf

Dr asked me why she was putting him on soya formula and I wasn't needed

Mind you he was seven weeks

Anyway got admitted with and as you say being a first time mom I thought the dr knew best and forced that horrid stuff down his gullet

His white blood cell count dropped we ended up in isolation he refused to drink he would literally shut down and go to sleep on a empty stomach

On the thitd day though I had be secretly bfing him at night I decided screw her and went back to bfing

She caught me and told me I was killing my child

24 hours later his blood count was perfect and we were discharged by another dr tge next day

Changed peads after that

My son has a compromised immune system but have been bfing exclusively since ds is now 25 months and still on the boob

Omg can't believe your pead told you that you were killing your child by breast feeding! I can't believe she said that period wth! So far haven't gotten any stupid advice about breast feeding. The first day I brought my daughter home she hadn't peed or poo'd the whole day and I was really worried about her not having peed I started crying and my sister told me to give her water... Give a 2 day old water wtf?! But that comes from the idiot that put soapy water up her newborns butt because someone told her it helps with constipation....it helped but didn't sound like a good idea to me!

My MIL tried to give me advice about breastfeeding even though she only did it for 6 weeks and hated it so most of her comments were negative about breastfeeding and pro-FF. SIL also tried to give me advice about breastfeeding and as far as I know she never attempted BFing with any of her kids. Definitely understand your annoyance when people try to give advice about something they really don't know anything about.

That's astounding!!!

Medical staff doing it is the worst! Especially in the UK where the NHS are supposed to be pro-breastfeeding.

With DS1 I got breast BF'ing support in the hospital and the community care team but with DS2 I was told my midwives to switch to formula 1-2 days after the birth because I was tiered. :saywhat: I am pretty sure I am not the only BF'ing mum to miss out on some sleep. Another midwife or two suggested I formula feed because my body had gone through so much in the trauma of delivery even though I wasn't having any issues with BF'ing. Doctors on the labour ward tried to get me to stop feeding for 12 hours for a procedure too even though the consultant from another department had already explained I could have a different type of scan because of BF'ing so I refused until they rearranged something more appropriate. I find it odd that the urologist I have dealt with has gone out of his way numerous times to alter medication, procedures and the ward I stay on to allow me to BF and yet a fair few members of staff in labour ward were less than supportive.

There's a LOT of morons out there who give advice when they should keep their mouth shut!!
