Okay so I've never been the best at laundry to begin with but having a baby now things are starting to get out of control... I finally figured out how to deal with newborn baby poo stains when we hit solids... I did not know food could stain so badly and I have no idea how to fix it!!!

Carrots, strawberries and that ever insidious banana! (who knew banana would stain so horribly??!?! I can't get it out of anything!) I've been using vanish but to no avail. Some of her clothes have been through the wash half a dozen times with no success now.

What do I do?!?! (I've completely given up on trying to get the stains out of her bibs.) I'm on the verge or buying all black clothes and changing her before every meal. How do I get these stains out????

Ive not got to that stage yet, but you could possibly get those bibs that are like a t-shirt if you get what i mean? so would cover most of the clothing...or when you've got her stained clothes off, possibly get them straight in a bucket to soak? jut a few suggestions i'd try, but like i've said, not had to experiment with these stains yet!!

I tend to use one of 3 tops that I have specially got cheap for food times. It doens't matter is she stains them, they're only for feeding. She shoves the bib in her mouth if I use one so I had to do something new.

Also as soon as food is over, whatever has food on it, take it off and leave it in hot water and washing powder. Will soak the stains out. x

I soak in Milton sterilising fluid or Napisan, that gets most stains out but doesn't affect the colour of the clothing (well Milton would - it's a mild bleach - if you made the solution too strong). It takes a long soak, usually overnight. I have also heard that Ecover laundry bleach is good, but I have no experience with this personally.

Otherwise, big overall bibs are good. As is not putting LO in something you want to keep nice at mealtimes. :)

Someone just told me to strip LO down to the waist for her meals, because of the mess and stains.

I've tried loads of things, but they were all crap. My mum used Bio Tex when we were kids, and I've bought it for LO. So far I've only used it for pooh stains and formula marks around the necks of LO's tops, but it's so mcuh quicker and easier to get the stains out in the soak than other products. It takes 90 mins in a warm soak (depending on your water hardness and the type of stain). I don't know what it's like on food stains, but my brother used to be terrible for messing up his school shirts with who knows what kind of stains, and she said Bio Tex was a life saver. It's in a little blue box if you want to try it.

Get them out on the washing line in the sunshine! Its a natural bleach that will remove all the stains. Might take a couple of go's but it works

Hi fairy liquid is really good for getting stains out. Rub a little on the stain before u put it in the wash. I recently just bought the bibs that cover the arms that look like a t shirt for my older little boy as he makes such a mess when he eats his dinner. I got them from Matalan xx

Ive heard that Napisan is good, im off to get some from Wilky's tomorrow x

I used vanish on Adams bib yesterday after his dinner. Just spray it with vanish then rub it like hell under the hot water tap and the stains come out then I'll wash as usual (The stains need to be fresh though!)xx

12hrs soak in nappisan ( cold as hot sets the stains in ) works for me everytime

man i miss having a huge sink in the laundry to soak stuff a bucket just dont cut it lol

i get poo stains out of my nappies by sun bleaching them (put them on the washing line or a windowsill)
It should work for clothes and bibs too.

Bibshirts only solve half the problem since she's BLW half her dinner winds up in her lap and mushed into her legs! :D

xpatchx - eee!... change her before every meal? How do you do it? My delightful little girl gets mad at me if we try to change her clothes too often. She particually hates dealing with sleeves at the moment.

Mary Jo - where can you buy napisan?

Morgan - Yes! I've done that with her white things, but does it work with coloured stuff too?

LeannieB - Fairy Liquid.. the dishsoap? or the laundry detergent?

lynnikins - cold?? everyone else said hot! now I'm really confused. n(my mom says cold too)

So which is it girls? Hot or cold soaking to get out stains?

:)

Washing the stain immediately with cold water always works. Run cold water on it then rub it with ur nails & run water again over it. For greese or oil stains using dish washing liquid always works xx

Cold water. I don't have any clothes or bibs with stains xx

I use a stain remover called shout.. Seems to work better than vanish if u spray right away.. dont know where u live or if you can get it but its good x

napisan! I soak em 1st then put them in a wash with napisan in with your detergent. works a treat!

Mary Jo - where can you buy napisan?

I buy it from my local chemist, it should be available in most supermarkets, either in the baby section (along with Milton and the like) or the detergents. :)

Great thread. Max is 15 months old and I still strip him to the waist for things like tomato soup, curry or anything that could leave a nasty stain!!

xx

Banana really is the work of the devil. Who knew??
Babies should come with an advisory notice re: banana :haha:

We use these bibs... https://www.designerark.co.uk/produ...rabib-With-Sleeves-With-Floral-Pink-And-Cream

But like you say... H does like to wipe her hands on her right hip :dohh:
