On/Off Labour?

Hey ladies!

So here goes i'm 37+4 weeks preggers and not last night but the night before i started having contrctions every 7 minutes. Yesterday morning i had a bloody show and the contractions continued all day every 7 minutes. When i went to bed last night they were still coming but when i woke up this morning absolutley nothing!!!

I even rung the hospital yesterday afternoon because the contractions weren't for stopping and i thought it was time! LOL! They told me to wait til they were every 4 mins before i went in.

Is it normal to have contractions consistently for so long and then nothing? Do you think they will start again soon??

i don't know what is normal, but i had that happen a few weeks before birth - sometimes, contractions just don't trigger active labor

This happened to me. I started contracting for 8 hours, they got to 5 minutes apart then stopped completely. After another 10 hours they started again full force.

Make sure you rest and eat! When your body is ready it will move on to active labour.

I was in slow labour like that for 3 days but since I didn't understand it I did everything I could to encourage it along. I didn't sleep or eat much and then when I did go into active labour I tired myself out before I was done.

It was all fine. I just didn't get the home birth I wanted but everything else was good.

You're in pre labor, it can last for weeks. With ds2 it lasted 8 days, with dd it lasted for about 4 weeks. It's preparing you for labor, but you're not in labor yet.

From what I hear this is quite normal. you can have contractions on and off for weeks before actually going into labour.

Well Ladies thank you so much for all of your responses! Sorry i haven't been on to respond but i would love to share with all of you that i gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl on 14th March! Turns out i was in slow labour after all! lol! She weighed a healthy 6lb9 and is the most beautiful little angel!

This happened to me. I went into labour on Friday and had pains all day, then through the night they were regular and so bad they kept me awake. Then the next morning they just stopped for the half the day completely! They started again in the evening and Oliver was born the next morning xx

with my kids i went into labor one lasted 5 days, one lasted 4 days and one 3 days...

see it does get shorter...

its called something called prodromal (sp) labor and it is laboring for days and nothing but medicine can make it come faster but you really dont want that..

best is to rest and eat and relax as much as possible before the big show....if you push for the meds to make it start to many bad things can happen because your body and baby are just not ready....

Congrats Donnaf!!

I have been in prodromal labor for 4 weeks now. Lost plug at 35w. Diahhrea, nesting, contractions close together and intense but stop, etc. This has been a lonnng wait. Now 5 days away from due date. Never thought I would still be pregnant! Guess early labor can be tricky... Oh and I was 3.5cm and 90% effaced last week. Been dilating about 1cm per wk. Hopefully our bundle arrives this week!!
