Once spotting starts, how long until heavy bleeding/cramping?

I'm 9-10 weeks with blighted ovum. Spotting started last night and is still minimal. Going for US in a couple of hours then to doctor to discuss options. Would prefer d&c than natural as I've terribly painful periods and I don't want to experience anything worse. I'm hoping they can do the d&c tomorrow but I'm nervous things will intensify before then. So once spotting starts, how long have I got??

Hi Daisy,

Sorry for your loss.
I started spotting lightly on the Thursday, period-like bleeding on the Sunday and miscarried on the Monday. In my case I wanted it natural.
It was painful but I am glad I went natural, somehow the physical pain helped with the emotional trauma, and I can't stand hospitals.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm sorry for your loss as well.

I have low pain tolerance and two small children at home and the idea of possibly of being in terrible pain and having to take care of them through that stresses me out.

I was able to get on the OR schedule for tomorrow, but haven't been given a specific time yet. I'm hopeful that my body cooperates with the "plan" and things don't get worse before then. Spotting remained very minimal all day but I've been feeling more crampy tonight.

It's impossible to say. I had spotting and light bleeding on and off for nearly 4 weeks and still nothing happened. Mmc at 5 weeks, we found out at 8 weeks, nothing happened. I eventually had a d&c at 11 weeks. I imagine if you are having cramping that would be a sign it could be imminent, but spotting and bleeding doesn't mean much in my experience.
