Recently my period has been very very light. This month, it only lasted one day and had already stopped by bedtime. I have PCOS and used to skip months all of the time and then bleed for at least 3 days with very severe cramps when it came. We took some time off from trying in early 2009 and I went on the pill to regulate my cycle for a short while (and deal with the pain issues). I have been off the pill and trying for an entire year (my second one ttc). My cycles have come at very regular intervals (30-32 days), but my periods have gotten really light. I've taken two tests and am pretty sure I'm not pregnant as I bled properly for at least half of that one day and am now at day 32. This is the second time I've had such a short period and my other ones this summer haven't been that much longer (2 days or 1.5 days plus spotting).

Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know what this means? I still feel really bloated and heavy. I've gained visible weight around my middle, but am still not really overweight.

Hiya,

I think PCOS causes your light periods. PCOS can cause all sorts of period disturbances - from no pariods at all, to ver light ones to bleeds that last a month!
It most likely indicates anovulation (lack of ovulation). Yes, you do get a regular bleed which you think is your period but really it's not a true af because the regular cycle wasn't there - like ovulation and then womb lining growth. Hence there's not much in the womb to come - if that makes sense?!

Have you been to the Dr to establish whether you ovulate? Clomid may be able to help to stimulate ovulation

Thanks. I haven't been to the Dr. in awhile -- but I did have a blood test at one point where they tested at different points in my cycle for the FSH LH ratio. At the time, though, I had skipped my period for 5 months and had just gotten it for the first time again. I was told that during my period my hormones reached a normal ratio but that the ratio was off beforehand. I know that I still have cysts in both ovaries and last summer I had fluid in one ovary which they thought was from a cyst. I was still getting 3-day painful periods though, and while this one day is preferable to pain I've always experienced in the past, it really doesn't feel right. It doesn't fit the patterns that I've followed with my PCOS.

I've never had this sort of feeling. For exmaple, I've always had sore and swollen breasts that immediately stop hurting and go back to normal once my period starts. This time round, the soreness has gone away, but they still feel swollen and I really feel bloated-- as though I'm in the lead-up to af-- not after af. This is the first time the bloating hasn't gone away ( the swelling thing happened earlier in the summer). I also have charted and have tried the ovulation kits. Both suggest that I ovulate between 17 and 19 days. Am hoping to try clomid soon, but waiting till hubby repeats sperm test as there was a problem with the viscosity.

I'm also scheduled for an MRI tomorrow and am unsure whether to cancel in the very off chance that we finally succeeded after all of this time.
