So here's my dilemna,

I have been unemployed for just over a month now. Right after christmas I had an interview with a company but they told me that they didnt know if they had the work for me right now. So in the meantime, I kept job searching. Last week I had an interview with a dream company, room to move up, better pay, all around a great job. So while I'm waiting to hear back from this company, I get an email from the first one saying they will have the opportunity to bring me in soon and wanted to know if I'm still interested.

What do I do? I havent had an offer from job B yet. A friend said to just accept the offer so that I have an income, and if I get an offer from job B, to take it. That seems kind of crappy. Part of me wants to email job B and let them know I have an offer with job A and seeing what they do, if they jump and get me an offer there, or if they tell me I'm not fit for the position?

See my issues? Please help!

I had this situation a couple years ago. I got offered a job with a really great company but was full time and only for a year, I accepted even though I had an interview for a better job more suitable for me (part time, permanent) and I was pretty crappy tbh and was a bit evasive about paperwork until I did get a job offer for the more desired job and explained all to the previous company. I didn't feel toooo bad because the first company didn't need me to start for another 4 months as it was a traineeship so they werent exactly messed around, but I did feel really rubbish about it. But at the end of the day what is a bit of a nuisance in their work life could make a big difference to your whole life, so don't feel too guilty. How long ago was the interview for the preferred job?

the interview was thursday. She said I should hear back within a week or two if I get a second interview.

Oh that's difficult....I'm not sure what I'd do......I think I would be too chicken to try and tell the first company that I was waiting on another job although that's the moral thing to do!! If you feel comfortable doing that, it is probably the best thing?

Yeah I'm definitely too chicken for that. I also don't want to turn either company off. I am interested in both, I would just rather take the better opportunity.

Okay so pros and cons of each job

Job A: pros
Small company= more family atmosphere
Already have an offer

Job A: cons
no room to move up
less pay
chance of hours being cut due to lack of work

Job B: pros
rapidly expanding company
room to move up
higher pay

Job B: cons
larger company= more impersonal
no offer yet.

Yeah thought that would help, and it didn't. It only makes sense to go with a job that I already have an offer with instead of waiting around for an amazing job that may not turn up anything.

Well if I'm honest I would probably take job A and see what happens with job B, yeah it would seem really crappy to leave job A almost straight away if you got a new job offer, but work is such a massive part of our lives and job B sounds more appropriate so I don't think you should lose out because of politeness?
