Hello! I am just over 19 weeks pregnant with fraternal boy/girl twins. Since the start, one twin was measuring about a week ahead and the other was always exact for my dates. At my last ultrasound a couple of days ago, the one was still exact for my dates and the other is now about a week and a half ahead. I didn't think it was a big deal because they are both growing, but the ultrasound technician said it was of a little concern and I should talk to my doctor. I don't have an appointment for another week, so while I anxiously wait, I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with this.

Thanks:)

My twins were always just about the same size, but I've noticed (via reading comments and such when I was pregnant with them) that them being off seems pretty common.

I don't have any experience with twins but I thought one was almost always bigger than the other?

Thanks so much for your replies! I also thought that being off was normal, but the technician said my doctor may be concerned but didn't talk about why. Until my appointment Thursday, I am going to assume that if they are both growing, that all is well right now.

Porcelain- can I ask if your twins were the same gender? I am wondering if the fact that the girl is measuring smaller than the boy has anything to do it with it.

I've never had twins but my cousin did and one was bigger than the other and she never talked about being concerned about it. If the smaller one is still growing on time I don't see why there would be concern?

Hopefully the wait for Thursday hurries up for you! :)

Thank you for your reply. Hearing these things makes me feel better:)

I dont have any experience personnally with twins. But there is a lot of twins in my family and DH's family. I have heard that with boy/girl twins the boy tends to take more nutrition then the girl. Also boys are satistically born bigger then girls. I wouldnt fret to much until you talk to the doctor about it. But it sounds like a common concern with twin pregnancy so they are probably just being cautious about it.

I am a twin (identical though) and I weighed in at 7lb 10oz when born and my sister was 4lb 3oz!! We did have twin to twin syndrome though which I think only affects identical twins.
I might add that this was also almost 30 years ago and my mum only found out she was having twins 2 weeks before we were born!! Lol xx

Thank you Mrsturner and Andi86:) I did a little more searching online today and it seems to be pretty normal, particularly with fraternal twins. I will just be patient and see what my doctor says Thursday!

My boy/girl twins are measuring pretty much the same but I always thought one would be bigger than the other.

Sorry, no help really!

I am a twin myself. I have a twin brother, who is older. He was just over 7lbs, and I was about 5lbs. He was definitely a chunk! Two of my older sisters are also twins, but they were closer to the same size. I don't know much about twins measuring and such, but it would make more sense for the boy to be measuring bigger than the girl, as opposed to same gender twins measuring the same. Hope that helps :)

Mine have consistently been the same size but I just read in my "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads" book that those size differences often happen with boy girl twins because of testosterone. The hormone in boys often gives them an edge on the girls.

Not an always, but if you're expecting boy/girl twins it may help explain for some

That makes a lot of sense messica! Maybe I should pick up that book...
