Onesies/bodysuits versus pants and shirts

I always dress my little girl in onesies and bodysuits. It just seems more comfy and is easier for me. I have dresses for her, but I don't put her in them very often.

in the early days lo wore jogging bottoms and tshirt over a vest. he always has a vest on at night as well when hot he has just a vest on and if cool its under his sleep suit. he Will prob stay in the vests til he starts using potty. i always found it helps signal a difference between night and day as when he has his sleeps on he knows its nighttime and sleep time...

I prefer to have her in babygros/onesies a lot of the time. Otherwise it's usually leggings etc.

You asked why snapping buttons is easier?? wait till you're trying to get a pair of trousers on a baby who will NOT straighten their legs and keeps pulling their feet up and out of the pant legs! plus you've to lift them to pull them up. Then there's the fact that you have to put socks on them, which will probably fall off all day (sock-ons are now my best friend there). I take her out in a carrier about half of the time (sometimes more practical than buggy!) and feel she's comfier in an all-in-one!!

Well, besides the either/or question, since onesies don't have legs, pants are necessary in the cold anyway... and putting pants on a baby doesn't sound that difficult... And why would you need the leg straitened? Just scrunch up the pant leg so that your fingers go through the leg and the waist, grab their little foot, and put it through the hole. Repeat on the other side, taking precautions for the other to not pop out, and slide up. Then there's the lifting to get them up to the right level but you have to lift the baby to maneuver the onesie anyway.

As for socks, you'd need to keep their little feet warm with onesies too!

i think i'm confused as to what you call a onesie...to me a onesie is a baby grow/romper suit but with feet? So a full all in one, but I think you mean a bodysuit, like a vest that fastens underneath?? vests are easy peasy, and my girl wears them every day, under every outfit, unless it's very hot, in which case she might just wear the vest (what I now think you call a onesie???).

Putting pants on a very small baby can be interesting, especially if they're not stretchy pants! things like leggings are easy though!

I love babies in bodysuits, we didnt last very long in those for our little one though - unfortunately he was blessed with HUGE feet, so whilst he was in 0-3 month babygrows (just), his feet were completely squished!! We tried him in a 3-6 month babygrow - it was huge in the body/length, feet fitted perfectly though but really he looked less comfy in that than pants and tops.... so babygrows arent always an option (and I bought loads from everywhere to try different sizing). He is 5 months now and in 6-9 clothes, and 12-18 month socks!! I imagine show shopping will be fun!! he he....

xx

I'm noticing the bigger the sizes the harder it is to find onesies! The current size Aurora's in is mainly made up of shirts/pants so I really have to dig for onesies! :(
To answer your question - we prefer onesies because they keep the diaper in place better. We put her in a shirt/pants a few times and the diaper would fall down a bit. I guess that problem could be solved by making it really tight but that seems like it'd be uncomfortable.
Another reason is because, especially when it's cooler out, when she's picked up her whole tummy's out because the shirt slides all the way up and has to be adjusted a ton. With onesies we don't have that problem. :)

Personally for me I feel that newborns sleep a lot, and onsies/sleepsuits just look so much comfier for them. Like we have our pjs, this is theirs. I loved putting LO in little outfits but in the early days we didn't go far, and she slept for most of the day except for feeding and then the odd 15-30 minutes before she'd be flat our again. As she's gotten older and awake most of the day she has her sleepsuit for bed but is dressed during the day in whatever I fancy that day - dress with tights, pants and tee, leggings and tee etc.

It's just personal choice. My mam used to go mad at me for "not getting her dressed" but then everyone she works with agreed I was right and she was the strange one :haha: (I'm kidding, don't take offence, my mam is just very particular and I and her work colleagues know what she's like)

:flow:

Sounds so easy when you're not actually doing it, right? :haha:

Honestly, pants are far from the hardest thing in the world. But sleepers are much easier. At this point I don't mind taking the extra time to put pants on her, but that first few weeks would have frustrated me even more if I was always trying to fight to put pants on a screaming/squirming baby.

I always put a vest on my son unless it's very warm. It's an extra layer to keep him warm and it gives him some extra 'bulk'. He's 23lbs 3oz but very tall and skinny and I can still feel all his ribs, his spine, his shoulder blades etc. I don't like that, so the vest gives him that little extra sturdiness.

In the early days he was mostly in a vest and sleepsuit anyway :)

Sophie always wears a vest because it doesn't ride up. Then over the vest she wears a t-shirt and pants.

Personally I hate it when my top rides up and I get a cold back. If it's warm she's normally in just a vest when at home!

i find onesies are AWESOME for around the house but I live in AZ and its fricken hot here, when he goes out, I throw overalls over his onesie .. and he looks adorable that way.. pants and a onesie dont look as nice.. Its really about how y ou want him to look going out.. its all aesthetic..

Please consider the following from the perspective of having a newborn:

Why are onesies a "must have?" Why is it that pants and shirts don't do the trick?

LO almost always wears a onesie (vest with poppers?/bodysuit) and always has. I don't like putting her in trousers and a top without a vest underneath because, as others have said, the top rides up and she flashes her little tummy at the world. I also think it looks uncomfy to be all bunched up. I sometimes just pair it up with a pair of little joggers or pop one on under a dress to keep her shoulders warm (and her nappy in place!).

When she was first born she was only 5lb and struggled to keep warm so a vest underneath a little sleepsuit (and lots of cuddles!) did the trick :) newborns can have some frightful (and very regular!) nappies so a baby vest was a good barrier between the poo and the sleepsuit. I had a lot more vests than I did sleepsuits so it was easier to replace them.

Carters make these really cute sets

https://www.carters.com/carters/Mon....html?cgid=carters-baby-boy-top-and-pant-sets

They ship internationally now so will be getting some for this baby. Still comfy casual but better than lying around in what I consider sleepwear IMO

I find onesies far easier, tbh I didn't start putting Eamon in pants and shirts till about 8-9 months :haha:

Onesies are a lot faster for changing. It's a huge pain IMHO to take off pants for every change. Also, shirts tend to ride up and pants tend to slide down so I am constantly trying to fix them.

Sparkes: I LOVE the carters sets.. That's all LO lived in besides the sleepers for night time, in the first 5ish months (now we're into the summer outfits). Even his "jeans" that make him look so grown up are cotton from carters :haha: We actually had that monkey one plus a bunch others, my favourite for when he was young and it was cold out was the pants that have feet because socks never stay on!! I think they have by far the best baby clothes, almost all of LOs wardrobe is from there

My OH isnt too keen on tes, shirts or dresses that dosent button in the back. She is much more confy and happy in a onsie + pants over and a little buttoned cadi over if its cold.
