hi all,

I was expressing up until a couple of days ago, we made sure she was ok on formula before i stopped, we had given her ready-made and powdered stuff - she seemed ok on it.

However over the past couple of days she has been really really fussy at feeding times - we put this down to her reflux, however today we gave her a carton (as we were out for lunch) and she wolfed it down!!!

The next feed on powdered stuff she was fussy again and hardly ate anything (arching back and crying during feeds) - we gave her a bit of a carton at this feed and she ate much better (still squirmy though).

I do notice that there is a difference in consistency - ready-made seems thicker whereas powered stuff is thinner and smells different.

Im wondering if im doing anything wrong when i make it up (i am boiling kettle, leaving 30 mins then mixing formula, cooling it down in water then putting it in the fridge)

Has anyone else experienced this? - anyone found a solution?

At one point we thought our LO was preferring the Ready to Feed - was drinking more at least of it. We tried using it exclusively - obviously loads more convenient but more expensive. After about a couple of weeks we tried the powder formula again and he was fine on it and we've been using it ever since. Might be worth just using Ready to Feed only for a couple of weeks? We bought the larger 1litre cartons and they are fine in the fridge for 48 hours once opened.

I make up the powder formula basically just like you.

Our LO (as a result of potential reflux) uses a feed thickener called Carobel and it made such a difference to the amount he was drinking and the amount he was being sick after. Was prescribed by the GP but you can but over the counter. Might be worth trying with the powder formula if you think it's too thin?

hiya thanks for this - shes already on gaviscon which thickens the milk, which 1 lite cartons do you use (at the mo we use Aptamil - as far as i can tell these are only in 200ml cartons?)

my LO prefers the cartons also but will drink the formula. Shame the cartons arent cheaper really!

My LO has always preferred cartons so we have used them exclusively for a while now. Aptamil only comes in 200ml cartons though!

There isn't anything wrong in the way you make up your formula, I think some LOs just prefer the cartons.. I haven't tasted them but certainly to me they smell and look nicer?!

My lo will eat both luckily. How are you heating, would they both be same tempreture?
