It is a name that steadily grew on me and OH, so now it is our top choice for a girl's name, but my family have all had negative reactions when we mentioned this.

Would people really only associate our baby with washing up gloves or could they grow to like it?

I thought of the gloves straight away. taking that away im still not very keen on it at all. I am sure whatever you choose though people will come to like it over time.

its what you and dh think is best for your child

Well - many other flower names are popular - so I think Marigold is acceptable. I'm in the US though, and don't get the gloves reference... so that doesn't factor in for me. Mary/Mari are logical nicknames that can be used, maybe your family/friends can use one of those if they prefer?

Personally, I would never use a name that gets bad reactions from everyone. I would worry my child would also dislike the name.

As soon as I read marigold I also thought of cleaning rubber gloves :-/

It didn't make me think of gloves at all. Is it a UK brand or something?

Sorry - I thought of the gloves too : /

It is a pretty name and it's sad it's been linked to the gloves. I also think that of the name 'Flora' - pretty but forever ruined for me.

I like flower names though, so you could either just go ahead, or maybe choose another similar flower name that's not a product. I don't think it's a no-go though.

I'm sorry! I also instantly thought of the gloves :(

And to the US ladies, marigolds are what we refer to rubber gloves as.

Rubber gloves! Hate it, wouldn't even cross my mind to use something like that.

Sorry but another rubber glove association here. Shame because it could be a pretty name. I met a little girl called flora, and although it's pretty i instantly thought of the margarine too.

Sorry I thought of gloves too! I love this name but can't disassociate myself x

I wouldn't use it because I wouldn't like to be called it myself. Having grown up with a name I've hated that's my rule on names!

Instantly conjured up an image of bright yellow rubber gloves, sorry

However use whatever you want to and family will always end up loving it once they know the child x

I hate myself for thinking of the gloves but I did! I think it's a pretty name and if you love it then you should choose it. People would soon get over it.

Once your child has that name people will get over it. We got tons of crap for naming our daughter Caoimhe, tons of people shaming us because they think that she will get bullied or some crap, and even now that she's born strangers still act like they have the right to say something about our name choice to me like it's their business. But I don't regret it, I would have regretted it far more if I had listened to my family and strangers. Do what you want, it's your child and teach her she has a beautiful name! It's nobody else's business.

I am just curious on how that's pronounced??

As for the OP I'm in the US so I don't think of that but its pretty. Although if there was alot of issues with the meaning of the name id probably differ to a different name but that me personally.

Keeva.

OP I didn't think of the gloves, I thought of the little girl from Downton Abbey. I don't love it but don't hate it either, though prefer Flora and Posy of all of the flower type names.

Haha! I love the difference in what we/you call things! I was like "rubber gloves???, must be a brand over there"

I love the name but I just think of the flower :)
