Opinions on 'Marigold'?

Sounds old and reminds me of gloves.

Not a fan and think she may not like it when shes older

I don't know the gloves thing either, but I just don't particularly like the name. Once you have your baby and name her that, it won't matter though :flower:

Marigold assoicated with rubber gloves here in Ireland too. Don't like it either, but I know what it's like to get such negative reactions from family and friends. I've vowed not to discuss potential names with my family this time around!
Caoimhe is an Irish name, it's actually normally pronounced Kwee-va, but some do,say Keev-va too. Very popular name here...

wow, i am in the minority: i love it!

originally from the US, so have no association with gloves, just the flower. and i loved marigolds growing up!<3

Once your child has that name people will get over it. We got tons of crap for naming our daughter Caoimhe, tons of people shaming us because they think that she will get bullied or some crap, and even now that she's born strangers still act like they have the right to say something about our name choice to me like it's their business. But I don't regret it, I would have regretted it far more if I had listened to my family and strangers. Do what you want, it's your child and teach her she has a beautiful name! It's nobody else's business.

I am just curious on how that's pronounced??

As for the OP I'm in the US so I don't think of that but its pretty. Although if there was alot of issues with the meaning of the name id probably differ to a different name but that me personally.

Keeva.

OP I didn't think of the gloves, I thought of the little girl from Downton Abbey. I don't love it but don't hate it either, though prefer Flora and Posy of all of the flower type names.

I was nowhere near pronouncing it right :haha:

I personally love it!! Edith in Downton Abbey named her little girl Marigold, and I thought it was absolutely beautiful :flower:

Not my kind of name at all, reminds me of the gloves and sounds incredibly old fashioned.

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate the honesty :) personally, I am finding it really hard to be put off the name, even with all the negative reactions :dohh: People have either said that they really hate it, or that they really love it. I think this is the Marmite of baby names.

For me, I visualise the flower, and it reminds me of the Nirvana song, neither of which are bad associations. I think we are just going to see who baby is and what baby looks like and then make our decision. We reason that even if people initially associate the name with the gloves, they soon will grow accustomed to it. Plus, if baby decided they didn't like it when they are older they could always call themselves Mary/Marie/Mae; I hope they would like it though :haha:

I actually really like it! I would never be brave enough to use it though. It's like how I have a secret love for the name Jeremy... It's weird and most people hate it but I would jump at the chance to use it. Hubby has well and truly vetoed though.

Dont like it at all. Too old fashioned - sorry x

This is interesting! Jeremy is a really common name in the U.S. What area are you in?

I'm in north west uk. My baby name app says it was the 436th most popular name here! Doesn't help that there are some celebrities with the name that aren't too popular! Are there babies named Jeremy over there or is it more middle age?

The name peaked in popularity in the late 80's/early 90's, so there are a lot of 20-30 year olds with the name :) In 2013, it as the 159th most popular name in the US.

I love Marigold! But I am in the US so don't have any associations except with the flower.
