opinions please?

can anyone think of anything else that i ought to add onto my birth plan, what have you ladies got on yours that I don't have? might give me some more ideas to add in

Thanks divershona. I have no idea where to start with this but you have given me some food for thought! (I'm only 27 weeks so have some time yet)

I was just wondering, where do you get all the info from for doing your plan? Does your midwife go through your options with you at some point?!

Have you looked into delayed cord clamping? That is something I am requesting (and something some hospitals actually do as routine now) instead of cutting the cord as soon as he/she is out they let it finish pulsating- (3-10 mins I think it can take) basically means your baby gets all the oxygen from the cord so give him/her time to adjust to breathing on their own- doesn't effect the way u deliver the placenta, I'm still having the injection. Also does ur partner want to cut the cord? Mine isnt sure but we've asked for him to be offered at the time to see how he feels then!

there is an option to fill it in online too, my midwife hasn't gone through any options with me yet but i think she might do at some point, there is a little section in my maternity notes bit for birth plan but there isnt much space to write anything on it, which is why i've written a separate birth plan.

Have to say I am not bothering doing one

I had (which is common) an injection as I gave birth to deliver the placenta. This meant my placenta was delivered about a minute later! If you opt for natural delivery of the placenta then it can take alot alonger - I think you get contractions for it too and you also push it out - as far as I can recall. So I personally preferred the injection route.

Your birth plan is very detailed - I didn't even get mine out of the bag ha ha ha. Things like episiomity etc will only be done if absolutely necessary. I had to have one to get my little girl out as she was in distress.

My MW said birth plans which were open and not too strictly listed with what you want are the best - as you cannot foresee what may happen when giving birth.

I have done a birth plan for this pregnancy and I've just asked for the injection to deliver the placenta, vit K injection for baby, an epidural for me and if poss for my husband to cut the cord (last time he cut the cord before my first was delivered! He had to do it very quickly).
