I went to the docs today about chest infection + to get bloods taken to check my platelet level (were 91 last time) - She gave me antibiotics and realised we hadn't had a follow up appt since she done my bloods last.. In my last bloods she was checking my cortisol levels to try and explain why I am so tired all of the time.. They were normal so today she diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome.

It doesn't actually sound too bad right ? - Wrong, if it gets so bad, it is actually classed as a disability, yes a DISABILITY. I know I may never get that bad, but it's been gradually getting worse over the last 12 months or so, I can sleep a whole day away sometimes, without even thinking about it. I don't have the energy to keep up with my housework, I'm in a real mess now with it & I struggle to get up with my little boy.. How am I gonna cope with 2 ?

Sorry pointless post really just needed to moan :(

Hi there,

First off {{hugs}} to you. I have a family friend with CFS, and it can be a very debilitating condition.

That said, I would for sure get a second opinion. From the (limited) research I have done, CFS seems pretty complicated to diagnose, because there aren't any medical markers for it. It seems to be an everything else ruled out type of condition. Have you been seeing this same Dr. for a year, or is this just the second appointment?

There are lots of other things that can cause extreme tiredness, including just plain depression!

I can imagine how rattling it must be for you for her to have diagnosed you with that, but I would definitely be thorough to make SURE that is the right diagnosis. Your platelet count is really low! Were they normal at your most recent appointment?

Thanks for your reply hun.

They have checked everything possible in my blood for a cause of my tiredness, apart from my platelets, everything else is perfectly ok. I have been seeing the same doctor for this for a little over a year yeah, at first she thought it was linked with my low platelet count, until she spoke to my haematologist and he told her it wouldn't cause such symptoms.

I also suffered depression as a teenager, like you, this was her first thought, but I can definitely say its nothing like depression.

My platelets have been dropping since Dec of last year, long before I was pregnant too, they are keeping an eye on them, like I said, my bloods have been normal, they also gave me an ultrasound of my liver and spleen which are both normal too, they suspect mild thrombocytopenia, but have adopted a watch and wait approach anyway. My previous count was 114.

Not sure where things will go from here tbh, I guess I'm feeling sorry for myself too, only being 21 and all that.

Again thank you for your reply xx

I don't really know much about this, but can the dr refer you to someone, even if it's to get more information or advice. There maybe a group or something too. All the best.
