My favorite milkshake!

Having just seen a commercial for McDonalds Shamrock Shakes reminded me that every year this time I usually make my own, nothing against McDonalds, and while this recipe certainly may not be any less calories or fat then McDonalds, you can control some of the ingredients (ie soy, low fat, etc).

2 cups vanilla ice cream or 2 cups soy ice cream
1 ¼ cups 2% low-fat milk or 1 ¼ cups soymilk
¼ teaspoon mint extract (pure mint NOT peppermint!)
8 drops green food coloring

combine all ingredients, blend and enjoy!

And conveniently a cure for heartburn and slow digestion!!! I'm making some tomorrow!!! X

Nom nom nom but I would have to add choc sauce to make it mint chocolate shake

Shamrock shake?? Sounds interesting! Never heard of those before lol. Guessing it's an American thing?

XxX

Mmmm....Shamrock shake. I guess only North America get them? I get them in Canada and the U.S.

Yikes! Im almost sorry I looked this up! Now I will for sure be making only my own this year as the ingredients in the McDonalds ones are horrendous!

From Wikipedia

Origin

The Shamrock Shake was first introduced in 1970.[1] Rogers Merchandising in Chicago created the shake. James Byrne, the executive artist at the firm, used a family recipe for the shake. Shamrock Shakes were widely available across Canada and the United States until the early 1990s. They were recently brought back and are still available at select Canadian and American stores during the month of March,[1] as well as in Ireland.[2]
The ingredient list for the shamrock shake syrup includes high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, sugar, natural plant flavoring (plant source), xanthan gum, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preservative), yellow 5, and blue 1. These are not the same ingredients included in the vanilla shake syrup.[citation needed]
A small shake has 540 calories and 16 grams of fat, while a large shake has 840 calories and 24 grams of fat. Low-fat vanilla ice cream is used.[2]

I had the McDonald's version today - it was amazing as it is every year - no regrets -

 - just popping out to the grocery store - for some reason I'm craving a green milkshake!! :winkwink:

those mcdonalds ingredients are atrocious

thanks for coming up with a nicer recipe and even a vegan version :flower:

I'm never eating or drinking from mcdonalds after whats been in the news about them lately.. yuck!

Nom nom nom but I would have to add choc sauce to make it mint chocolate shake

That's pure evil, I say! :D

I'm thinking I should chuck in some chocolate shavings as well and half-freeze it... Then slurp it through a straw *drool*

Oh how my 'fantasies' have changed in just a few short months :haha:
