Other young children at the birth?

I think it really depends on your child/children really. I thought my youngest (4) might want to be around when we have our homebirth, but then the other day he saw me in discomfort from baby pressing down in my pelvis, and he got all teary and his bottom lip came out and he was really worried baby was hurting me badly...so now I think he would not like to be around while I labour! My 7 year old just would not care to be around a birth! Its important for your midwife to respect your discretion with regards to whether or not you think your kids would handle being around while you birth at home.
