OUCH!! White spot?

Well this hurts like h*ll. I have a white spot on the tip of my nipple. Hannah has been sucking so much the past 2 days I have got a white spot! I have no idea what it is or what to do about it but it hurts like chuff.

Any ideas please??

It sounds like a blister to me and it's usually due to bad positioning

I had this a couple of weeks ago and called NHS Direct because from Googling (google is evil!) I was convinced I had an infection. The nurse at NHS Direct wanted me to go to the out of hours doctor which I thought was a bit over the top so I just went to the doc the next day when it had improved a bit. She said it was possibly thrush but more likely a blocked milk duct and the best thing was to just keep putting baby on because she's best placed to unblock it - the spot was gone by the end of the day Hurt like a bugger at the time though!

Lisa everyone keeps saying my position and latch is ok. I am feeling so desperate now and am on the verge of giving formula 3 times a day just to get a break. Hannah is feeding all day STILL!!!! I really can't take much more and I know I have been saying this for months now but I don't want to give up!!

No it isn't thrush, I know what that looks like. This look like a blister now some one has said so!

Thanks a lot Lisa. I will pm you my mobile number. I have just given her 3mls of formula and she is finally asleep. Been awake since 3.20am!! sooooooooooooo tired. I just can't fill her up myself at all after nearly 4 frickin months and this blister is just the icing!!

No one has tried harder than you. I dont want you to have to admit defeat either. We know that although lots of women feel they cant BF for various reasons but the reality is that it's quite rare. Usually it society and the like getting inside their heads - you know the whole bottle based obsession with exactly how much they get etc. Maybe you are one of that 1% but I know you dont wanna give up without a fight. I'll come over and spend a few hours with you and at least I'll feel like I've tried too.

Thanks so much Lisa. I really really don't want to give up but when I feel like I have tried everything it's awful. To give up now would be heartbreaking after everything we've been through!

This sounds like what i had. Kept checking positioning with everyone and all agreed position and latch was good but one nipple kept getting this white spot which hurt like a bugger, especially when my bra rubbed it as well. Don't think the docs really knew and they gave me different creams which didn't really do anything. Googled as well and think it was a blocked duct. Even pinched the white spot to try and squeeze any possible buildup out (which there wasn't really) but did relieve the pain briefly. Anyway, eventually it seemed to just clear up on its own within a matter of days just as i was about to give up bf. Probably doesn't help you but maybe will give you a bit of hope.
