I just want to give a little back story. I am a type 1 diabetic so I was managing my pregnancies with insulin and testing. My first pregnancy went without a hitch. I was induced at 38 weeks and my daughter was born at 7lb14oz, 20.5 inches. We went home straight away and everything was great!

Fast forward 6 months, we found out we were surprisingly expecting again! I was put on an insulin pump and everything in the pregnancy was going great up until 28 weeks. At 28 weeks we noticed I was getting very large very quickly and I was super uncomfortable (like 35 weeks uncomfortable..) I was measuring 4 weeks ahead at this point and went for a growth scan. I was diagnosed with polyhydramnios (excess fluid) and baby was already growing very large.

4 weeks later went for another growth scan and at 32 weeks baby was estimated at 5lb 6ounces.

Everything about the pregnancy was horrible. I couldnt move because I was so swollen and large. Everytime I drank something it would just stay in my body. I gained about 70 lbs total all over my body and within my bump. It was AWFUL!

Starting at 32 weeks i was having 2x's weekly NST on baby just to make sure everything was ok. At the beginning of 36 weeks Morgan started to show some de-cels in her heartrate so the doctor wanted to monitor me even closer. He had me go into his office on Saturday to do another NST when his office wasn't even open and thank god he did! My hubby went in and after my NST he said it didn't look good but he may have to take baby today because there was just too many de-cels and they were lasting quite a while. We did an ultrasound and she didnt pass the beta physical profile so within 2 hours he said we were having a c-section and she was coming out today.

Had the c-section and OMG... a 10 lb baby! They estimated her at 8lbs at 36 weeks and at 36+6 Morgan Renae was born via c-section weighing 10 lbs exactly and 22 inches long!

We are not sure why she was so much larger than my 1st daughter. My blood sugar levels were the same for both of them???

Onto after the birth..

When she was born her blood sugar was tested and it was a 29 so she was put into the nursery on an IV and oxygen. After I came our of recovery and could sit up without vomiting i called down to the nursery to check on her because i still had not held her at this point. They told me her blood sugars are way low and they were not sure if their nursery could handle her there and they may have to transfer her to a NICU at another hospital because she needed more sugar and a central line in her belly button to keep her stable. In addition, she refused to suck so she also had a feeding tube. On top of it she was severely black and blue from being in my tiny body and crunched up against my ribs and hips. Im a pretty small girl so carrying 10lbs inside of me, extra fluid, you can just imagine. I was huuuuuuuuuuuge!

The next day I went into the nursery to see her to hold her but they wouldnt let me. They immediately came to me and told me to sign papers so we can transfer her to a NICU but I wanted her healthy and with the best medicine so I signed it off, cried, and within an hour they picked her off and took her away from me. I still didnt hold her :(

I talked my doctor into letting me be discharged the following morning so I could visit her at the other hospital she was transported to. He did!:happydance:...

The last week we have been going back and forth to the NICU. it has been exhausting but she is just getting stronger everyday.. She had the central belly line in for 3 days. That was pulled because her blood sugars were on the normal side finally, they took her off of oxygen, she still refused to suck and then yesterday she started showing she could eat on her own! Today they pulled her feeding tube line out of her nose. She is a bit jaundiced from the black and blue's all over her and also because she was a bit early. But it looks like she will hopefully be coming home with us tomorrow night or Sunday to meet her big sister :) She has been eating like a champ!

And even though she was born at 10lbs they told me she will thin out and lose weight as the days go on and right now she has lost 7oz. I am just glad to have her home almost though!

But anyway, here is my lil (i mean hugeeeeee) sugar baby Morgan ;)

Congratulations on your baby girl. Are your docs going to try to find out why this pregnancy was so different from your first one?

They said sometimes it just happens? They were not looking into it though, they just consider it a diabetes thing w the extra hormones and sugars! Who knows!

I'm so happy everything seems to be turning out alright - what a scary situation! I can't imagine having to wait so long to hold your baby.

On another note, my heart about melted when I saw that second picture! She is so so adorable!
