So our yellow bump is now blue!

Peter John was born on Friday, July 12th at 10:04am, weighing 3lbs 6oz and 16 inches long.

Pics & Birth Story...

I went in on Tuesday the 9th (I was 32 weeks) for a sonogram to check the baby because my thyroid levels had climbed over two weeks. They found that the baby was weighing about 3lbs and should have been 4lbs. They also saw that the umbilical cord was not flowing properly, it had a back flow effect to it, which was not good and forcing the baby to work harder. They also found that I had too much amniotic fluid and the placenta was failing.

They admitted me on the spot and gave me two shots of steroids to boost his lungs. Originally they were going to induce me and let me push but by Thursday night every time I had a contraction, his heart rate would drop. myself and my doctor decided a c-section was smarter and on Friday morning, the 12th (also my husband's birthday), Peter was born!

Because I was completely knocked out, I didn't get to see him for a few hours, but when I woke and saw my husband's face, I knew it was a boy. I smiled and said, "it's a boy isn't it?" and he said, "yes, an amazing boy".

Once I was fully awake, they wheeled me in to see him and I have to say I thought I'd be nervous having a premie, but I couldn't wait to get my hands on him! (lol) I've never felt so complete in all my life!!

As of now, he is breathing completely on his own - cpap has been taken off and is no longer under the lights. His feeding tube was moved from his mouth to his nose and he tries to eat his hand and suck a binky, which is a really good sign! Thankfully I have had no trouble breastfeeding through pumping, which is something I wanted to do, and he is taking beautifully to it and the formula they mix with it.

As for my c-section, I was so worried it would be miserable and painful, but I can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yes there was pain, but I was up and walking to the bathroom myself that night, I was able to get out of bed by myself that night, and I had no trouble sleeping on my back or either side. Also, I had gained 25lbs in 7 months of pregnancy, by yesterday a week later, I had lost 15 of it.

Overall my birth experience was crazy, hectic, emotional, and completely amazing! I would go through the entire roller coaster again and again just to have my gorgeous son in my arms.
