Firstly I want to say a massive thank you to everyone as this forum has helped me so much with advice support and fantastic tips. I hope those who still have bumps have very healthy babies and those with babies are enjoying motherhood as much as I am

I was due today July 15th but on July 10th started loosing my plug but then lost a blood clot so had to go to the assessment centre where I was monitored all day. They let me home that night but told me I was being induced the next day at 8.30. I was gutted as wanted a natural birth and to go into labour when my body was ready. They said some of my waters had gone but I never felt them so thats why they were inducing me.
We went home and I began having contractions on Sunday night so didnt sleep (not the best thing before giving birth). I was so happy though that my body was ready for labour and obviously baby was so had a couple of baths and pottered round the house, they were coming every 8 minutes which I didnt expect so quickly.

We went to the hospital and they put me on a ward and monitored babies heart rate and my contractions, I was having them every 6ish minutes and they hurt, they were like really bad period pains lasting 30seconds or so but I had had them since 2am so was getting a bit fed up of them. Anyway, I was on and off the monitor then they did the gel to induce me, they decided to only do half the dose as I was contracting then would do the other half later or not bother at all. The gel part wasnt nice as she saw how many cm I was, it hurt a lot, I was only 1cm but she said the cervix was already feeling a bit softer, I bled a lot which was scary and when she left I sobbed!!! We went for walks and I sat on the ball but was in agony, again I kept being monitored but couldnt stop crying. 6 hours later another midwife came in and said they would give me a rest day where they would do more gel and leave me all the next day...how could I rest when was in pain??? 30 minutes later my hubbie got a bit sharp with the midwife and said we would like to know what was happening as we keep getting told different things as originally we were told after the 6 hours we would be going to labour ward. She said she would come back to talk to us but then another midwife appeared to take me to labour ward?? I said she must have the wrong patient but she said she was for me, I was sooo happy.

we got put in a lovely room (views of Lincoln cathedral) with a bathroom with bath and shower :thumbup:and I asked if I could have a shower, she said she wanted to examine me and it was now I found out I was 7cm dilated.... I could and should of used my tens machine instead of having nothing but thought I was only 1cm so didnt use it....I wish they had checked if I had progressed so I could have used it grr!!! they thought it would be a quick labour and even told my hubbie not to get babies bag from the car as he may miss it if it was quick (I wish it was quick)

I was given gas and air and they broke my waters and I started breathing through the contractions then told to start pushing ever so gently to learn how and where to push. The worst bit during it all was part of my cervix hadnt gone back and was in the way and the birth canal part (took forever) things were going well and they thought baby may be born 9.30ish but then.... each contraction her heartrate slowed really really down, they carried on monitoring it and then decided to give me the artificial drip as my contractions were not as regular as they had been. The drip I didnt think affected me at all and I didnt even notice it. Labour carried on but the heartrate was nearly stopping so next minute all the consultants were in and I was going to have emergency surgery, they were either talking forecps where they would have one go then emergency c section. Just as we were getting ready to leave the room babies heart picked up and another lady needed surgery so all these big consultants were discussing who was going first. They said the other lady would and I had 25minutes to get baby out or was going in (it had been hours so I was determined to not have surgery). I carried on pushing and eventually they could see hair but after each contraction the head disappeared.... we now know the umbilical cord was short and wrapped sooo tightly round babies neck that they needed her out asap:( they decided to do a episiotomy and put the monitor on babies head so they could keep an eye on oxygen levels. I lost about a litre of blood and my blood pressure went high but still I pushed through sheer determination and our baby was delivered :happydance: :) My husband cut the cord and the midwife lifted up babies legs so he could see if it was a girl or a boy and tell me, he just looked at me... then said "I couldnt see if it was a girl or boy" because he was crying so she lifted her again and he looked then grinned at me.. is it a girl or boy... his response.... "my eyes arent working" he he so the midwife told us we had a daughter, we have called her Neve Scarlett and she was born on July 11th at 11.59pm weighing 6lbs 14oz :cloud9:
She was placed on my tummy and just looked at me..... oh my god its so amazing. They showed me how to feed and stitched me up (took nearly 2 hours) then left us just the 3 of us, they gave us tea and toast. It was 3ish when hubbie got to have a cuddle, I kept her when they were stitching me to focus on something which helped. I then had a bath.. I looked dreadful my face was so swollen from pushing and my eyes from lack of sleep. We had more tea and toast then at about 6am went to the ward. The staff were all amazing and my hubbie was fab. I didnt move around alot like I thought I would as found the bed comfy but was really upright and towards the end the bottom part was off and I had my feet in stirrups (attractive) I found sitting as in on a chair or ball uncomfy as the pressure on your cervix hurt. I tried all 4s on the bed not great as felt like I was going to fall off :blush:but did go on the floor like that and it was good. I had to be monitored so was strapped up but honestly think I would of used the bed anyway.
All I can say about birth is it is a roller coaster of emotions, pain which you honestly is worth it, determination to push that baby out and pride that you have done it. xxxxxx2011-07-13 11.18.49.jpg
