Hey ladies. Is anybody else here overweight and ttc? I am 5'2" and at the heaviest I have ever been at 175lbs. I gained 30lbs in the past yr on bc and just stopped taking it last month. I weighed this the day of delivery with my son so I am worried this time around. Should I be trying to lose weight before ttc? We tried this cycle and I am waiting to test. Just feeling concerned about being heavy and gaining more weight...will being overweight increase my chancea for miscarriage? I am active, but most of my weight is around my midsection. Just worrying constantly...

I'm about 30lbs overweight. I am a bit concerned that it can affect fertility and everything. I'm trying to lose weight, though it's been difficult. However I know other overweight women who've had children. Best advice, try to lose weight but don't stress about it too much.

Heavier/overweight women can absolutely fall pregnant! You will read in most places that it *can* affect fertility. I put on a lot of weight while pregnant with my DS. He is now 13 months old, and before TTC #3 I lost all of that weight, and am now the lightest and fittest I have ever been. I feel like I am the healthiest I can be to go through this pregnancy.

I dont think being overweight causes a miscarriage. It can just affect your fertility.

You will probably have consultant led care but unless you develop complications then everything should be ok. I was about 200lb when my husband and I tried for our first together and we conceived on my third cycle after having implanon removed. It was a relatively uneventful pregnancy, I had some bleeding early on and had a scan at 5+6 since I had a mc a couple of years before but he was fine. I also had a cyst and some pain which stayed put until about 17 weeks but that was it. I lost weight during my pregnancy because I went off most food and was lighter after birth than I had been in years before that.
There are some issues you could face potentially and there isn't any harm trying to lose weight whilst trying if you wanted to, as long as you're doing it safely and not trying out diet pills or faddy diets. Just focus on eating as healthily as possible, take prenatal multivitamins and try to exercise for half an hour three times a week minimum if you can.
I would still ttc but do all I could to increase my chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy at the same time :)

Thanks ladies! I was about 130lbs when i got pregnant with ds so this is a lot different this time around.

I was significantly lighter when I got pregnant with my third child which wasn't long after having my second and the two pregnancies couldn't have been more different. My third, despite being a good four stone lighter, was so much harder on me. I had SPD which was absolutely awful, I would expect more issues when I was overweight but it was only when I was just within a healthy BMI did I have problems.
I did have preeclampsia with my first a few days before he was due but this could happen to anyone at any weight. It wasn't too problematic for me, I had to stay in hospital but the following early hours I went into labour naturally so avoided being induced. Had to take blood pressure meds and was offered a blood transfusion the following day because I was so anaemic but I refused as I wanted to go home!
I think there's a lot of scaremongering about weight and pregnancy. I think it can cause issues but it doesn't always and it won't always get in the way of ttc
