I purchased the book "taking charge of your fertility" when I decided to start charting my basal temp... Its great for so much information but it has really helped me understand my charts...
I could clearly mark my base line temp for pre ovulation and now I'm in the post ovulation cycle on day 7. The book I mentioned above has been a real eye opener on the process and some misconceptions of ovulation.
Sometimes a woman can have a chart that just doesn't follow the typical low temp pre ovulation and then high temp post ovulation. But after a few months of trying you very well may see a pattern. It could just take some time..
Small things about taking your basal temp is you should always try to take it at the same time of day.. First thing in the morning is best. And even the smallest thing like getting up, using the washroom before you take your tempature can affect a true reading.. I keep my basal temp thermometer and printed chart right next to my bed and the second I wake up, take my temp. another thing I never knew is that when your temp spikes, which indicates ovulation, your pretty much past the point of trying to conceive. You either have a fertilized egg or not. When i first started charting I thought the spike meant that was my peak day to try. While there is a small chance that you could possibly conceive on this day.. its highly unlikely.
Anyway, I could ramble on about all the things I've learned about charting from that book.. Highly recommend it.
We've been TTC for 8 months now and I'm praying that this is the month.
