Hi all,

I was wandering what you know about O during period. Does it change the cycle? Can you O twice? Any information?

I am asking because I had a drop in my BBT on the second day of my period (it was three days) and than the temperature jumped as it does after O . Now my nipples are a bit sore. My body drives me crazy .

:hugs:

Your temp can take a while to drop when you get AF.

I wouldn't read it as you ovulating just because it's pretty unlikely and it's more likely you just had a bit of a temp blip.

No, you can't ovulate during your period. And it would be incredibly rare for someone to ovulate twice in a cycle.

Temps usually drop during AF (or just before) for most women. Hormones can do funny things to us too, so they could also account for the sore nipples. If you're temping & charting, you should see a pattern after a while which will show you what the norm is for you personally.

Occasionally some women bleed & think it's AF, but it turns out to be ovulation spotting, or even spotting because they are pregnant.

Hi, girls,

Yes I known it is very rare to ovulate during period. For 6 years ttc I have read a lot of information. I don't do bbt for the first time. I used to do it years ago when initially we started trying for a baby. After 8 month of me getting obsessed I stopped doing it. Now years later we finally started fertility treatments and I started bbt again. It is my third cycle bbt and speaking about pattern.....my body doesn't have one . Anyway, thank for your posts. Good luck.

Daisy, is there any chance you could do cycle monitoring? that would really help if they could check your bloods and scans throughout the cycle to establish what's going on. temp and even OPK can be misleading.

I think it's possible to ovulate during your period (but very unusual), there wont be a pregnancy as there is no time for the egg to mature and for lining to grow. it's also possible to ovulate twice in one cycle but I guess it should happen roughly at the same time otherwise you get hormonal mismatch: your yellow body of the first follicle starts producing progesterone following the release of the egg while the second follicle is still producing oestrogen – does not make sense. during my first IVf I had two follicle: first was collected but the second one was not collected and it seemed to have ovulated on its own at some point after EC. hard to say when but I had a scan after I got my period and there was a yellow body on its place so it must have ovulated. (basically I had two yellow bodies one on each ovary so I guess if you ovulate twice in one cycle that's what they will see on the scan after ovulation and that's I guess the only way to confirm how many follicles ovulated. but I think this should happen at the same time more or less not several days or a week apart). though I am not an expert my observations are just based on common sense and may as well be wrong.

Hi, Briss, happy to hear from you. I thought the same as you. My question was just because I was curious. I read also treads of women saying that they actually got pregnant during theirs periods. On theory a doctor has told me in the past that this is possible but very rare case.....

I am actually waiting to O in about 3 to 4 days. The think is that the test appear to be not accurate for me. Obviously, I have the surge sometimes but I don't O :(.

Thanks everyone for the posts. GL.

Daisy, a few people I know were convinced they got pregnant when they ovulated during their period but I doubt it very much. you would have to have a very short cycle something like 18-20 days. is this the case with you? can you post your chart here?

How do you know you do not ovulate? is it because your temp does not go up? have you had it confirmed with bloods and scans? my temp is very disappointing sometimes and I doubt if I really ovulated but whenever I have a scan or progesterone test it seems to be always confirming ovulation. it's very strange but I feel like I am very attuned to my body and know what's going on but sometimes the scan shows a slightly different picture compared to what my chart says. I obviously trust the scan more.

Hi, for the last 2 years my period has been quite regular 26 27 days. I have had in the past 21 days but I think this used to be because of the very hot summer in Bulgaria. I could definitely see my period varying from summer to winter between 25 and 30 days. But now in UK has been pretty stable.
Unfortunately, I can't post my chart. I did bbt for about 8 months years ago (maybe 5 years). You could see my temperature jumping just some of the months. Now I bbt again and do opk last month it jumped but the month before not but my opk still was positive. I think that's why the doctor gives me clomid. Next month when I start it I will have and blood test on CD19.
One interesting fact is that I did CD21 blood test when I was 23 and 24 years old and both times progesterone was good :).

Remember sperm can live for 3-5 days so if someone had sex at the end of their period they might still get pregnant but the ovulation would come after.

This is interesting because I'm 12dpiui, expecting af soon, getting bfn, and then just for the heck of it tried a digital opk and got a positive. My temp also spiked today.... I'm starting to wonder if it is possible.

lanet, I'd test again getting positive OPK at the end of the cycle can also indicate pregnancy (particularly combined with a temp). I've seen it quite a few times here. good luck!

that's true healthy sperm can live quite a while inside our bodies particularly if EWCM is there. My mum conceived me on the last day of her AF, they thought it was safe to have sex during AF :) but that's not because my mum ovulated during AF but because dad's sperm turned out to be very strong. I am sure my mum did ovulate rather early in her cycle maybe CD 10 or 11 but unlikely before that because before CD10 the egg wont be mature enough for fertilisation. I am sure miracles happen but it's very rare.

I think I actually Od yesterday because my temperature jumped from 35.1 to 35.8. I will be more sure tomorrow. I am not doing opk this month because I just decided to wait for next af and to start clomid next month. But we still BDed last night :P.
