Before Amaya "got sick" (that's how we refer to when the Leigh's Disease first presented symptoms) she would suck her thumb only when she was really sleepy. Afterwards, it sort of became an addiction. Now, it's the only thing she really cares about... She's content as long as she can suck her thumb.

The issue is her poor little thumbs. They've toughened up since the beginning when they would be cracked and bleeding, and now they just get raw. She WILL use a pacifier, though she would prefer her thumb. But all of the pacifiers are now too small for her. She's used to having the size of her thumb, so it's difficult for her to latch onto and keep a hold of pacifiers. I'm looking for bigger ones to try to help give her thumbs a break. Any suggestions? :baby:

Hi hun,

Try here, it is an international site and maybe they have some things you could try that would be just as comforting for your daughter, without the stress on her thumbs.

Hope you find something she likes. :hugs:

I look after special needs children for social services.

We went on ebay and got an 'adult dummy' did the trick.
