Pain AFTER HSG?

Starting two days after my HSG I got pain under my right ribs. It only hurt when I moved.
I figured this was probably surrounding tissue irritation from the dye that came through my tube. My doc prescribed Vicodin and I assumed this was why.
It hurt to breathe deep, yawn, burp, etc like my diaphram was sore.
I had to work and took lots of pain medicine on Friday, but it didn't really help so I didn't take any more.

It's been a week today and I'm still hurting!! I haven't taken anything else for pain, and maybe it's gotten more "dull" or maybe I'm just "used to" it, but it's definitely still there.

I'm supposed to go to my gyno clinic tomorrow morning and will speak to them then - because they are about impossible to get on the phone.

Anybody else had anything like this?

YES! Me too! I just had my HSG on Monday and have had some strange pain. It's not awful - and I didn't actually think about it until I read your post. Mine is just up under my ribcage a tiny bit. I'd be interested in hearing what you found out from your gyno!

I haven't had an HSG but I've had multiple hysteroscopies + lap + laparotomy and with each of those, it's the gas that's the problem. Essentially, if during the procedure any gas is pushed inside by the doctor some of it stays behind and you get pretty terrible pain for a few days afterwards until it is absorbed. But my pain was always in my shoulder, never ribcage so I'm not sure if this is the same thing.

Well now I have a fever. 99.5-99.9 and an apt with my GP tomorrow.

I about passed out at the dr after the blood draw and totally didn't get around to asking about my side!! Grr! I was talking one minute about my HSG, and then said "I think I'm gonna sit down" and I almost blacked out, then I almost puked so they brought me some water and that helped, and I laid down on the u/s table till I felt better!!! I've actually never had blood taken before, but worried that might happen so I ate breakfast instead of skipping and drank some Dr Pepper on the drive up there, but maybe it's just inevitible. My sister has the same problem, so much that she knows to tell them in advance and bring Sprite. Like I said, my first time, next time I'll know.

Yikes! I hope you didn't get an infection from the test. Fingers crossed for you with your GP. Hope they can get your fever back down and figure out what is going on!

Fever was 100.6 last night at 2am, but a normal 98.5 when I woke up. My temp was normal at 1pm when I went to the dr. Saw my GP she also suspected gas from the test and ordered an x-ray. No residual dye or gas was seen.

So she ordered another blood draw to check on my liver! Yikes! So this time I had them do it laying down and I stayed laying down for 5-10min after and didn't have any problems with my bp plummiting. I run a relatively low BP anyway and suspect that is the problem with getting blood drawn.
She also scribed Percocet? A stronger narcotic, so hopefully I can get comfortable at night.

She was also asking about my gall bladder and such. Maybe this isn't even related to the HSG at all???
Still don't know anything for sure though

Went to the ER this morning coz the pain was worse and I felt shakey. Had an ultrasound, more lab work, and a CT scan with more dye.

From the CT scan they determined that my ovaries are swollen and the left side (that doesn't hurt) has a cyst. Swollen ovaries apparently cause abdominal pain and fever.

My blood work showed elevated white blood cells and low potassium. (Oh and yes, we did it laying down again and I cried but didn't pass out)

He said they couldn't tell for sure what was causing the pain, but my gallbladder was clear, my appendix isn't swollen and my liver results were fine.

It sucks soooooo much to hurt so much and really not know why. I guess it has to be my swollen ovaries, even though the pain is higher up, it kinda moves around and doesn't seem to come from any one place.

And I got AF, practically a week early. Passing some clots, maybe more of them than usual but nothing unusually sized. I cried a lot actually. Scared mostly, but probably PMS-related cry-iness too.
DH was an angel!

Aww - that stinks oneKnight. Sounds like you have a fantastic DH though. Fingers crossed that your fever and pain go away quickly!

Diagnosis is large, hemorrhagic cyst on left ovary bleeding and causing pain.
Treatment is do nothing, lots of pain meds, and hope it goes away by next period. They said there's not much that can be done to make it go away faster and surgery to remove it would probably result in loss of the ovary.

Call when I get my next period, get another internal scan to make sure it's gone.

I'm satisfied that this is the correct diagnosis, but kinda frustrated with all the pain and lack of treatment options!!!

I guess it's not necessarily the result of the HSG, as I've had cysts off and on for years, but usually they burst and hurt for a few days max.

I just had my HSG test yesterday. Worst experience ever....but my main concern is that I also have the right rib pain. It started late this morning and got worse. It's been about the same for a few hours now. I called the nurse and she said it was unlikely that it's related because the parts are so far from each other. But I've read and other forums where some women experience this. Is it related?
