I had my anatomy scan today and the tech pushed sooo hard during the exam. Each individual push wasn't bad, but after 30 minutes of it, I walked out feeling very sore. No obvious cramping though. By the time I got home, I had a smear of brownish/red discharge in my underwear. It's now 6 hours later and I still feel uncomfortable. I called the nurse there and she pretty much blew me off. She said there shouldn't be any bleeding because I didn't have a trans vaginal. I told her that I'm aware of this, and that's specifically why I'm calling. I know there shouldn't be bleeding after an abdominal ultrasound!! If it had been vaginal, I never would have bothered her for simple spotting after!!:dohh:

The doctor called me back a little bit ago and said he'll do a trans vaginal on Monday for me to look at the cervix and placenta. They told me to rest and drink lots of water for the next 24 hours. I feel like they're just trying to cover their ass now though. I had absolutely no issues during this pg before the ultrasound this morning. Now I'm just super annoyed. Has anyone heard of this???

Try not to panic. My little lady was being a monkey during the scan which ended up being 45 minutes with some quite hard probing. I ached that night and the day after but am fine now. I figure it was just from the pushing about. I didn't have any bleeding though but thought I had a bit after my 12 week scan. When I rang the hospital they said not to worry unless it filled up a sanitary towel xxxx

Should I even bother with Mondays ultrasound then? I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole-hill, ya know?

If it'll put your kind at rest I say go for it. I bet you you'll be so much less uncomfortable by Sunday though. I was terrified because I was so sore and then yesterday I felt so much better and titch has been wiggling like crazy xxxx

Hope you and baby are ok db xx

I'm sure everything will work out fine. The baby is moving a ton now. I'm more super annoyed by the whole thing now. That tech needs some education about how her actions can impact women.

I would still go for the Monday ultrasound to be certain. It does sound like they are trying to cover their asses but I would want to know and not let them off too easy. Best of luck.

They really do push pretty hard. I felt sore after each ultrasound I have had so far. No bleeding though, but if you think about it, there really is a lot of blood collecting there so its not inconceivable that you might spot some. If I were you, I would still get that scan done. That way it can put your mind at ease that nothing is wrong.

First of all, you are in no way making a mountain out of a mole hill! This is your baby we are talking about if your the slightest bit worried get seen Hun.

I've not heard of this before though, sounds strange if it was me I'd want to be checked for my piece of mind.

Good luck Hun

I read a post on Babycenter like this, the woman's abdomen was also pushed too hard and she was spotting afterwards. Hope you're okay x

Every time I've had an abdominal ultrasound, it has hurt for about 2 days and then everything is normal (they usually have 2 people do it at the hospital I go to).

I am new to all of this so maybe I am just a bit slow, but why do they feel the need to press so freaking hard?? It always makes me really uncomfortable especially as their doing it.

Thanks for your replies ladies! I'm feeling fine today. Yesterday I was still sore if I over did anything, but I'm back to normal now. I guess I'll do the Transvag tomorrow just for peace of mind, and then write a strongly worded letter to them later!

I had cramping and spotting after my 12 week ultrasound. Then when I had my second ultrasound at 22 weeks, there wasn't spotting but there was soreness and cramping. Given that my body responds to ultrasounds this way, I would skip having any more unless I was concerned for baby

Update - Vaginal ultrasound on Monday went just fine. My cervix is long and closed, measuring 5mm, with no bleeding anymore. My placenta looks good, with no hematomas or signs of a subchorionic bleed. And LO is moving like crazy. As a bonus, I had a chance for them to confirm that the umbilical cord is implanted well, right in the middle of the placenta. DD2 had a velamentous insertion of her cord. That was my last ultrasound ever, since I'm done having babies! Hopefully smooth sailing til Christmas now! Thanks so much for all the support!
