Hey ladies, last night when I went to bed I lay on my left side and I had bad pain where both my kidneys are. I thought it would go away but it didn't so I turned onto my right side and the pain eased but ached a little. I fell asleep and woke up to no pain and had no pain since.

Random?? Or the beginnings of something? I don't have any problems with going to the toilet, everything is normal so don't think it's a urine/water infection. Is it just a one off?

Sounds as if baby might of been led against something. Nearly every night I get a ache or pain in bladder, ribs, kidneys, liver, stomach ect.. I turn find a comfy position then wake up fine xxxxxx

Thanks not had it before and was worried there was something wrong with my kidneys x

if something is worrying you hun, then always get it checked to ease your mind xx

I have Hydronephrosis, which is why I have pain on left and right side back as well as front rib cage area. You may want to speak with your doctor to make sure you are not have any kidney infections or stones. This is why I am being induced in a week in a half the pain is terrible! Good luck.

Thanks, it's not a burning sensation, it's pain. I've had it twice now when I go to bed and lie on my left side but eases when I turn over. Got MW soon so will mention it then x

Hi... Just to ask have you had your water checked lately as pain in the kidney area Could be a sign of water infection.. Just saying as it happened to me at 30 weeks with my first and I just came on all of a sudden xxx

I had it checked 2 weeks ago at last appointment and all was well. Things can change I know but I don't have any physical symptoms of a water infection. My next app is a week tomorrow so if it happens again I will ring up and see someone and if it doesn't then I will wait and mention it at next week's app x

Yeah mention it as u never know kidney pain was all the symptoms I had.. Hope you don't get the pain tonight and all is good xxx

Thanks I'm off to bed now so will soon find out... Night all x

I had a similar thing happen when i was around 19 weeks. A month before, I'd been to the doctors with an ache in my side. Discomfort peeing, but not what I expect from a water infection. No burning or anything really. Just this dull ache and sometimes pain in my right side. Got antibiotics to treat a suspected kidney infection.

Fast forward a month, I start to get back ache on both sides at around 5pm. Gradually gets more and more painful, until it wakes me up at 3am and I'm in tears. After an hour of crying to myself, thinking I'm soft and just experiencing normal pregnancy backache, I accidentally wake OH. Good job too, as no more than 15 minutes later, I'm having uncontrollable shivers and throwing up.

Turns out, I had the same kidney infection! Complicated because the first bout of antibiotics didn't treat it (neither did the second or third. Silly hospital!) and it just got worse and worse, without giving me any proper symptoms. I just thought my achy back was normal.

Basically, what I'm saying is, you can get a water infection without some of the expected symptoms. If you're feeling a strange discomfort, go see your midwife or doctor. Better to be safe than sorry! I made that mistake once, but I was reassured that my midwife would MUCH rather tell me I just have gas, than have to read through my pages of hospital notes again :haha:

You were right, it's a kidney infection and boy am I suffering now :(
I urge anyone to check out even a minor symptom as I left it and am now paying the price. Better to be safe than sorry!!
