Hi everyone
Currently having a bit of a panic. My brother in law sprayed a household chemicals in our house while my 7 week old was about a metre away. I did a quick google search and everything says to keep away from children. Does anyone know much about this? Bub and I won't be sleeping in that room tonight as a precaution but I have no idea if I should be contacting my doctor? She seems completely fine but I don't know what kind of effect it can have?

Hi, I used to work in this area. Everything says to keep away from children as a precaution, but most things that are available for household use will have been assessed for safety in children. If it's been approved for sale then it won't be anything too dangerous, a single brief exposure will probably not be harmful, unless your child happens to be very sensitive. Keeping the baby out of that area for a while isn't a bad idea though, and certainly keep a close on her for a while.

Do you know the name of the product or active ingredient? I might be able to tell you more if you can let me know, the potential effects will depend on the product.

Hello, thanks for your reply! It was called WD40. I ended up calling my doctor and she said if she hadn't reacted within a few hours then it's likely she's completely fine. She also said if we can't smell it in our room it's safe to sleep in... I'm still weary of that though

Here's the link to the safety data sheet. It should be fine. Just let the room air out for the day (open a window briefly if you can), and it will be good to go in a few hours.

Thanks so much! I had the windows open and fan going in the room after for a good 6 hours before we slept in there so that's a relief xx

Yeah, WD40 shouldn't be too bad, I'd be a lot more cautious of pesticides and things like that, bug sprays and weed killers.
