hi.
may daughter is only 3months, but i want to get in my head what im going to do when i start weaning her. i have no idea what the hell im going to do, or what im suposed to do. ive just moved and having trouble getting a health visitor to talk to.
shes already showing signs that shes ready so when im back from my mums and lily is past 17weeks, i will try and introduce porridge or the rice stuff to her.
can someone please tell me what i should do.

im not 100% sure myself but id work out if u want to do traditional weaning so purees, baby porridge etc or if you want to do blw werer baby eats what u eat. blw is only really works from 6 months on (i think) the traditional weaning you can start at 17weeks but youre advised to wait till 6 months but it is your choice. if you think ur lo is ready and u want to try a small amount of porridge or baby rice then you can do that but i wouldnt do too much or may give upset tummy.

My LO is 17 weeks on Tuesday and tbh i am going to try and hold off till as close to 6mths as possible for a few reasons.

Weaning too early can damage their intestines
Making chewing motions is normal behaviour from 3mths on as they grow and do various things, its not necassarily an indicator of wanting food
BLW and waiting till 6mths is just easier lol! I dont want to do purees etc, Id rather just share my food with LO

I have been getting grief since my son was 4wks old to wean him (yes you read that right!) and they can all sod off, he is mine and im doing what i think is right.
My LO doesnt watch me eat and other than making chewing motions which i think is down to his mouth being sore from teething, i just dont think he is ready x

I would say hold out til as close to 6mths as u can. You've said yourself that u don't have a clue about it...nor did i, so i used the time from 3mths (when i first started researching blw) til now. And I feel more like I know what I'm doing now lol. So we will be good to go in a week and a half time. There really is no rush. As pp said, chewing motions etc are not real signs of readiness for weaning. Sitting upright unaided, losing tongue thrust etc are.

Relax and do a little research so u know where to start, its all very daunting. But u have plenty of time to get ur head round it all. X
