Hello all,

I have been suffering from PCOS since about 10-11 years. I am not TTC right now but I wanted to know how long did it take for each of you here to conceive successfully since the time you actively began :sex:? All inputs will be helpful.

I am almost 26 right now and DH is 30. We've decided to WTT until early 2014. I wanted to know how difficult is it to conceive when having PCOS by reading inputs from everyone here. I know every woman is different and every pregnancy is different and every cyster is different but just wanted to know success stories for some motivation :)

Thanks!

Im LtTTC, 10 years now. Pcos has me me completely non functional. Without Femara at 7.5mg or higher I won't have a period, grow eggs or ovulate.

Since your still pretty young--see a specialist and not a reg Dr. It will get you results faster. You just need to regulate your hormones for things to work.
Metformin and a good diet will also get you there faster.
Take your vitimins, cut caffine, cut sugar, no aspirin ect

GL:hugs:

I was told I probably had PCOS by my obgyn in May 2009. It was my first time going to this obgyn because I had missed my period for 8 months and the only thing she could see wrong was that my testosterone levels were a little high. I prob should have seen a different doctor as this was a very vague diagnosis but I was young and I wasn't too stressed about it. Went on birth control and it seemed to clear me right up. Went off bc in Feb. 2010 just to see if my cycles would come on their own. I also lost about 30 lbs in this time period. My cycles seemed to come on their own and in May 2010 we started TTC. I had heard it was hard to conceive with PCOS so I told dh I would give it a year before I would worry because we had time and I was finishing up my degree. Exactly a year later, May 2011 I got pregnant. I wanted to give you a positive story. However, I want to add that we were not always so strict on TTC because of my some what crazy schedule and that my mom also had PCOS and had 4 kids no problem. So I hope I'm not upsetting anyone, just wanted to give you hope:winkwink:

Thanks Sykora and Tanya for your inputs.

@Sykora : 10 years is a long time and I really find it amazing that you are still hanging in there. That's a lot of willpower and commitment, that's great! Good luck!

@Tanya - thanks for your positive story :)

All other ladies in here, please do post in here even if you have to vent out your frustrations about PCOS.

I got diagnosed with PCOS last year after a long while TTC with no :BFP: I wasn't getting my period with any regularity and it took Clomid 100mg to get me to ovulate with any regularity. Experience with PCOS is really varied. I've seen some ladies have no trouble, others where the meds work for them immediately and others that TTC for years and years. They'll be plenty of ladies here to support you on however your TTC goes. Thank goodness I've had them to turn to! GL!

In my situation my pcos seems to get worse as i get older, i had my first born at 19 got caught pregnant 1st cycle, my 2nd i was 22 and it took me 2 years 3 months at this time didnt know i had pcos, after trying for my 3 rd for 6 months i went to doctors last june and found out i had pcos now 17 months later still no bfp on 1500mg metformin a day and booked in for lap n dye, hystereoscopy and ovarian drilling on monday 25 th june x

I was diagnosed 3 years ago after not being able to concieve for two and really irregular periods. We are now trying clomid and I still haven't ovulated. Bumped up to 150mg for this next cycle, I hope it does the trick! We are ttc 5 years and counting.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago, when we weren't ready to start TTC. I was quite upset but decided to use the time to try and sort myself out. I wasted a lot of time trying to use online calendars and just work things out by dates, which is useless with PCOS! I finally heard about BBT and this is the ONLY way I know that I do ovulate, which is of some comfort. By doing BBT for the past couple of years I now know that my ovulation time can range from CD 25 - CD 43. Not great, but at least I do know that I ovulate on my own and not to get upset when I get negative day 21 blood tests! (Why they keep making me do them I don't know...)

I did get pregnant about a year after deciding to ditch the condoms. Sadly that ended in mc. I got pregnant again 3 months after the loss, but lost that baby as well. We have now been trying since Jan 2011 to get pregnant but with no joy and I'll be starting clomid soon. I know it's not a terribly positive story, but just wanted to share my experiences!

I have decided to use BBTs as well to know how often I'm ovulating if I am. I think it will help me because staying in the dark and waiting for AF to come (when I know I am not pregnant) is very frustrating adn disappointing! But, apart from all of this, I have also heard women with PCOS are more prone to having miscarriages and I'm afraid I had one couple of months ago (though we used condoms). It is upsetting to know that. Thinking about all of this, I am not sure if I should TTC now or put it for later when I turn 28. That's the whole ambiguity!

I was diagnosed with PCOS at the beginning of this year, having been trying to conceive for just under a year. I tried to do everything the proper way i.e. get a career, buy house, get married etc before TTC, all the time oblivious that I had PCOS. Had i have known I may not have waited for so long! But then everyone's position is different.

Having said that, it seems from reading these posts that not all women with PCOS experience a long wait and can get pregnant very quickly, so it really depends on your situation. If age is currently on your side probably best to wait until you are ready.

I am currently on clomid (5th round) and am trying to decide when I am actually ovulating - if at all. I have just started charting alongside OPK's - hopefully something positive will show up!

Good luck CherryChops! I hope everything works out for you and you get get what you want. :hugs:

With my first LO, it took DH and I two years to get a BFP (and we were on clomid for five cycles).

So far, DH and I have been trying 7 months for number two! (and we are on our third cycle of clomid).

It happens-- sometimes not as quickly as we like, but it DOES happen! :flower:

Hi :) I'm not totally convinced I have PCOS becuase two of my Drs disagree but I thought I'd share my story with you anyway - hope you don't mind!

I'm 28 and DH is 30. We've been TTC for a year and 5 months. We waited until after a year to get checked out by the Drs.... However I went earlier as I stopped taking birth control pills and never got a period. I had to wait for a looooong time to get HSG, had multiple blood tests done and repeats of blood tests, and many ultrasounds. I felt like they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. DH's tests came back normal and I was diagnosed with PCOS by my gyno because of lack of periods - even though the tests said I was "normal". I'm not totally convinced that I have PCOS as the tests they did didn't back up the diagnosis. I'm at a healthy weight and my family Dr wanted to do more blood tests since he wasn't convinced I had PCOS either. This is when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My family Dr thought that hypothyroid meds would make me regular but they didn't so he send us to a fertility specalist. My cycles range from 17 - 93 days. I usually need provera or I don't get a period at all. We are now seeing a fertility specialist....So weather or not I actually have PCOS I am totally confused. I'm not sure if just having a lack of a period but normal blood work, clear tubes and no cysts showed up on the ultrasound. The fertility specialist prescribed 3 months 50mg of clomid and then after that he wants to try IUI. We finished our first round of clomid which ended in a chemical pregnancy. I am currently on round 2 of 50mg clomid, CD16. I O'd on CD17 last round of clomid and the OPKs are getting darker by the day so I'm positive I'll O again this cycle too. O is just around the corner for me now.

One thing about clomid is that I was worried I might still not get a period but exactly 2 weeks later, AF showed up. I'm grateful clomid makes me regular!!!

It has been a rollercoaster but I'm hopeful and positive we'll be parents one day. The journey is just not over yet.

Thanks Shudknow, same to you

Hopefulbaby, it sounds like you are ovulating ok and if your DH is fine too then should be just a matter of time before you see results. Fingers crossed for you.

P.s. I was diagnosed with PCOS after having had the ultrasound as I had lots of small cysts on my ovaries. I don't have all the symptoms though - I too am not overweight. I did have really irregular periods though (between 31 to 45 days long). Clomid seems to have regulated them so far to 30days, but am still not convinced I am ovulating as my temperature in BBT chart has not changed all cycle.

PCOS does seem to be a diagnosis that is made for a very wide range of problems - I'm not sure the fertility specialists know exactly what it is!

I was diagnoised with it like 12 years ago, it took me 7 years and 3 miscarriges to have my LO who is turning 2 next month
