I am looking for some positive feedback from women like myself who have PCOS. Personly I feel like I know very little about it. I was just diagnosed a few short weeks ago. My husband and I have been trying for about 5 months now. It's really sad to say but there just isn't a whole lot of information out there about PCOS other than the symptoms. Everything I have been reading seems to say weight loss is the key to success with this type of infertility. But I have also been reading that it is more difficult for women with PCOS to lose weight. And that's the problem I have been running into. I successfuly lost 15lbs with the help of walking, running and a new healtier diet. However, since lossing the first 15lbs I haven't been able to lose any other weight just maintain the weight I'm at. Are any of you ladies with PCOS having a successful weight loss plan? And if so are you willing to share so tips?

Hi there *waves* my weight loss plan has been working me. And that is a low carb / low sugar and fat diet. So thats been helping loads, combinded with walking. I dont know if that will help at all? I've also been started on Metformin recently and that has been helping a bit to. x

My doctor told me about Metformin but I was scared to try it. Does it have any neggative effects?

it made me feel abit sick when i was taking it twice a day. but on one a day I am fine, and it is helping me loose weight!

Hiya, I have pcos and am taking metformin, I am also on a low gi diet (low carbs and sugar) I've lost about 20lb in a couple of months.
With regards to metformin side effects; when I first started taking it it gave me a bad tummy. I find if I eat too many carbs it upsets my tummy

Hello :)

Iv only just been diagnosed PCOS but i had a feeling about it so I have been exercising and dieting for the last coupla weeks and have lost 10 lbs so far,
low GI
NO dairy

It is hard but I know its for a little bump one day so its worth it :)

I see a registered dietician who specializes in PCOS and her BIGGEST advice is make sure you're eating enough protein with every meal/snack. If one of your snacks doesn't have protein, it should definitely be low on the gi index. I'm actually allowed any carbs/sugars that I want, as long as I'm eating it with enough protein. I've been following it for the 6 weeks or so since I was diagnosed and I've been feeling SO much better! GL and :dust: !

i have lost almost 15 pounds since i started my pcos treatment 3 weeks ago. between the upset stomach from the metformin and the low carb diet i am seeing excellent results.

most people with PCOS need extremely large amounts of metformin to see results in their system, the bad side effects are diareah and stomach cramping. not going to lie to you about it, it is literally like liquid all the time  sorry for the TMI, but TBH it is worth it. other than that part of it i feel SOOOO much better. my doc reccomended that i start with 500mg for 2 weeks, then go to 1000 for 2 weeks, then 1500, and finally 2000. i will start 2000 tomorrow though. the side effects are worse with eating more carbs as well. its worth a try even if you get the negative side effects because they will eventually go away

I'm sorry to hear that you have joined the PCOS sisterhood but I hope we can help! I was diagnosed in January and have been taking steps to live healthier. Taking Metformin has helped make my cycles regular. As far as weight loss goes, I've lost and kept off 35lbs since January 2007. It's not easy but I've found that the online group sparkpeople.com is free and helped me learn how to eat right. They also have a really supportive online community. Good luck! You can do it.
