as above really. i have been ttc for over 2 and a half years and was diagnosed with pcos in september, the doctor was'nt very helpfull and basically said go away and lose weight , which i have been trying and failing to do , i am a stone heavier than my ideal weight so not massivly overweight. Can you ask for metformin or will it only be prescribed if you have insulen resistence [ havent tested for it ) ?

thanks for reading and sorry its a bit of a ramble x

Hi! I too have been diagnosed with PCOS and am actually normal body weight so when I asked my RE about metformin she said that it hasn't really shown to be helpful for women of normal body weight and has a lot of potential nasty side effects so the risks outweigh the benefits. I don't think it hurts to ask though.

Hi there ladies! I have ("slim") PCOS as well. I am of normal body weight. I have been on Metformin for nearly a year. I have found it to be extremely helpful with regulating my cycles. I have not experienced the "nasty" side effects either. An upset stomach is typically the most common side effect but you slowly build up how many pills you take so that typically subsides. You should definitely inquire about Metformin. It is worth trying. It really does work for many women. I have yet to have a bfp, but it is def nice having a more regulated cycle :) Also, it is said that Metformin helps to lose weight.

Just FYI....you can ask to be prescribed anything....what's the worst they can say...no? lol! I asked my doctor to prescribe me clomid and she did that very day :)

Much baby dust to you!
