PCOS - Just started metformin, anyone else taking it? Been on it before?

Hi,
I went to the docs this morning after having bloods done, everything was ok apart from my LH and FSH levels. Doc said average for LH is 8 and mine was 20! Has started me on metformin, she told me to start on a low dosage and build up slowly (increase it every 2wks). Obviously i have PCOS but she said it was mild as im not overweight or suffering from achne and hair growth. Anyone else been on metformin? Has it helped? Did you get a period, start O'ing? How long were you on it before you had any of the above?
Is it ok to take say aswell as metformin?

Hi babygirl, I was put on Metformin in June, I started on 1 tablet per day for a week, then 2 a day for a week now I am on 3 a day, didn't really have any side effects except for slight nausea in the evenings but that soon went.
It made me ovulate straight away, I was impressed

Just had an HSG last month, which has shown a possible blocked tube so am being booked in for a Lap&Dye which I really don't want and am hoping to get pregnant before that comes around.

good luck, the only problem I have with taking Metformin is remembering to take the blooming things 3 times a day

Thanks for your reply. Hope you get your bfp before your next appointment! Im impressed it made you ovulate, fx it does the same for me i have not had af since 5th aug, will metformin bring af on? Bit confused if it will do that or is just to help with ovulation? Im on half a tablet once a day and in two weeks i go to one tablet, then two. Doc said metformin can cause tummy upset and i suffer with ibs so have to be cautious, just worry the small dose wont do anything?

i take metformin too, i would definately build it up slowly, you may find just the one tablet on small dose could cause you tummy upset. i am ok on 1 tablet but as soon as i go up to 2 i get horrendous cramps. am now on a slow release one which seems to be better. good luck! xx

Hi. I started Metformin about a monthe ago. 750mg for the first week then up 1500. It makes me VERY sick to my stomach. I tried taking dramamine, but it only worked for a little bit. I have PCOS and IR. Don't have any weight problems or hair. I have an Af every month and I'm pretty sure I ovulate.

I had regular periods anyway even before Met but just wasn't ovtg, but I have known of other woman who did get periods from being on it, and as you can tell every ones symptoms of it are different.
Alot of women get bad tummys, but apart from a week of nausea I have honestly been fine on them.

hey i take metformin for my pcos im on 3 a day i still have unwanted hair and i still dont ovulate to me it doesnt feel its working for me but start off slowly and see how u get on with it xxx

Hi got put on met 3 months ago. for me personaly its done absolutly NOTHING!!! i havent had a period or anything. i was only prescribed 500mg a day though. ive been to gynae today and shes upped it to 1500mg a day!! Praying that it will work now. when i first started takin it i had an upset tummy for a week or so but then was fine on it! i find it best taking it last thing at night as then when ur getting the most affects of it your sleeping so not too bad. i couldnt cope taking it in the morning!! good luck!

i've been taking it for a month. I normally have 3 month cycles but just taking 500mg brought on af tho I did have a week of spotting before proper af. Ive now increased to 1500mg a day and i only find i get nausea if i dont eat enough!! I am really really tired tho, been in bed by 10pm every night this last week. Will wait and see what happens with af next month - just finishing this one! Hopefully will ovulate but I am overweight so concentrating on that first xx
