I haven't been diagnosed with full syndrome, but only cos my specialist has given up trying to help and just called me fat (uk size 14..) He suggested I join weight watchers and would give me no other help or tests until we go back in november. So that was a few weeks ago. I went on a strict low GI and low sugar diet ( I just can't bring myself to cut it out completely) and worked out 30 minutes a day on my exercise bike. It worked great initially and I lost 3.5kg in less than 2 weeks. But in the last week I've actually gained 0.2kg! I'm worried this is my polycystic ovaries making it so flaming difficult, cos I really can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Has anyone got any tips?

My consultant prescribed me metformin to get my BMI under 30. I don't have the insulin resistance but she said it still helps PCOS ladies to lose weight. Could you look into getting that? I can't say if it worked for me or not (I worked hard to lose weight as well!) but my BMI is now below 30 and they are treating me again now. :flower:

Hello, I know how you feel! I'm on a low carb, no sugar, no wheat diet. There is a thread where me and another lady started together (me yesterday, her today) why don't you join us to help each other? https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/trying-to-conceive/2005947-all-ladies-pcos.html

there is also a very good pcos forum which gives very good tips on things that help us lose weight ( cinnamon as it levels our insulin resistance) https://www.soulcysters.net/forum.php some really lovely ladies on there too x x

He called you fat at size 14?! How rude! I'm currently following Slimming World which seems to work for me! Hope you find something for you soon x

It's normal to plateau around that time in any diet, it's where your body realizes what's happening and tries to hold onto the weight. The recommendation is that you change up what your doing.
Eg - been running? Try some weights.
Been living on salads? Make sure your getting plenty of protein.
Or ditch your exercise bike and start doing some walking in a hilly area.
Also make sure your drinking plenty of water. If your not getting enough your body will store what it has as water weight.

Good luck!

My BMI has always been below 30 but he won't help me. He also refused to give me metformin- I did ask him and my GP several times but they all said no. I'm obsessed with my calorie count app so I'm definitely not eating more than I should, or too little to make my body go into starvation mode.

I just feel like I'm getting nowhere at all. TTC 13 months now and only ovulated once in the past 7 months. :(

I'll check out all your suggestions. Thanks!

It took me nearly 2 years of asking for metformin. In the end my insulin resistance test was a 10 so borderline and he said if u really want it it's up to you. Are u insulin resistant?

They haven't even tested me. My GP ran some basic hormone tests and I had an ultrasound and I have multiple cysts and my LH and testosterone was high, but that's all they did. And the specialist said nothing at all except call me fat. He seems to think there's no point in trying to treat me. He just said if I lose weight I'll get put on the IVF waiting list (my hubby has a low sperm count too)

They've just been so unhelpful and won't listen to anything I say.

Like I said it took me nearly 2 years of asking for metformin to get it! In the end I enrolled myself in a clinical trial where they did conplete bloods and a copy was sent to my doc.
Metformin is a diabetic drug and has not been proven to help pcos that's why doctors are reluctant to give it.

If your BMI is under 30 I have no idea why he won't treat you!! Can you ask for a different doctor?
